It's $50 off. The R615, sold at Best Buy, is the model that's typically $600. The R617 is the Amazon model with the upgraded remote.

This is a TV you want to buy locally or from a place with great return policies. There are a lot of screens on this model that have banding issues and you want to be able to get one that has minimal to no banding issues. Unfortunately this may take going through several sets to get to a good panel.

While there are probably lots of people who are fine with this tv, many have banding issues like I did. To make matters worse, I went to shut off the tv this morning and it appeared to freeze. Unplugging and pressing the reset in the back don't work. It won't turn on anymore. At less than a month old! Not a bad deal if you get lucky with a good panel but I'd stay away.

Previous 2 posters are correct. I've had two with bad banding. Still, I'm tempted to try a third time since I really like the built in roku (I know, I could just buy one, but it is pretty slick), and the picture is awesome other than the bands/dirty blotches. Third time's a charm? Although if I do get another bad one, I'll have to pay for return shipping with Electronics Express, hmmm.

count me as one of the lucky ones with a good 65" R6. No issues except more eyedrops from too much TV. The money I saved is going towards a 5yr warranty and more HDR content.

Not sure why the TCL fanbois are in full force today downvoting previous posters. The previous posters are 100% correct. TCL is currently suffering from lack of quality control at the moment. Also the 55" is being reported as more prone to issues than the 65".

The TCL 6 series is an amazing budget TV, but there are significant reports of returns due to banding, panel freezing, poor uniformity, and blooming. Please spend a few minutes and read though the pages on AVS forum [avsforum.com]. There are hundreds of people returning defective panels.

The savings is not worth the risk of buying this online at the moment. Buy it at Best Buy for $600 so you can easily return it if you have a problem. This is a great TV, but only if you get a good panel. You dont want to buy from ebay and have to deal with returning a TV though the mail.

A majority of the users in that forum are happy with their sets or are going through calibration recommendations, asking questions, etc. But, it is a newly released television, so of course there are going to be some defects upon initial release. The biggest issues reported so far is the banding, but most users are reporting very limited banding or no banding at all. There are definitely some bad batches out there with extremely banding, but retailers and TCL seem to be stepping up and making sure everyone gets a working set. The panel uniformity, freezing, and blooming reports are extremely minimal from what I have seen through the AVS forums and reviews throughout the major retailers.

The "lack of quality control" bit is exaggerated on your end. People also claimed Nintendo had a massive quality issue when they launched the Switch...turned out that was just people looking for the negative things in life like with this new 6-series launch. I don't disagree that some of these sets are bad, because people have proof of what is wrong, but the scope of the problem is far more limited than some people are claiming. The sky is not falling...if you get a bad set, work with TCL to get it replaced.

Not once did I say it was a high chance. I just said it is widely reported and a known issue. I also never once said not to buy it. I very clearly and simply said, buy it from a local store to ensure you can easily return it if you have an issue. Lack of quality control is not exaggerated at all. Go read the AVS forum again, there are several people reporting they had to do 2-3 returns before they received a quality panel. It is not normal, but it is possible.

Doing TV returns though the mail is not fun.

My biggest comment was that it is a very valid concern, just this thread alone has 3 users in it with issues and all of them are being downvoted for letting other know of the issues they have faced. TCL fanbois shouldnt downvote them for sharing their experience.

I am really happy that you and monkeybiz have personally not had issues, but that does not mean that hundreds of other people have been so lucky.
