I just need some ideas for using a second when I have not yet used more than two ports on this. If only I had some managed switches.

I have a managed switch. What would be the advantage for that? Never even mess with it.

I'm running some Ubiquiti stuff at home (USG & APs) and use Unifi. Could this edge router just be used as a switch?

You can use it to have separate VLANs for different traffic, for example a guest network that is completely segregated from your home network. Or if you have TONS of devices you could do separate VLANs for home automation, or other stuff like that. Cuts down on broadcast traffic and increases security, but for the most part necessary for most home networks.

Yes, I don't see why not. But why spend $38 on a 5 port switch? 8 port gigabit switches are cheaper.

The biggest reason not to is that this router is not managed through the Unifi interface. Buy an 8 port Unifi switch instead.

It's a router, not a switch
It can be configured as a switch.
