As part of their 4 day sale [bestbuy.com], Best Buy has the Dell Inspiron 11 3180 (model I3180-A361GRY-PUS) for $129.99 [bestbuy.com] with free shipping or store pickup. This is $20 lower than the usual $149.99 recurring sale price.

AMD A6-9220e dual-core 1.6GHz CPU, Radeon R4 integrated GPU, fanless design

Warning: if you buy the laptop+Webroot software bundle and return the laptop later on, Best Buy will charge you $30 for the software (software is non-refundable per policy). So remove it from the cart. (Thanks to d4daniel below for the heads up). The laptop already includes 1 year of McAfee anyway, and free/FAR antivirus software are easy to come by.

CPU PassMark should be around 1850 [cpubenchmark.net] (currently, the average PassMark is 1455 from only 7 samples online, most if not all from this Dell laptops, skewed by 2 low samples -- Windows 10 was probably updating or user doing other stuff -- a problem with crowd-sourced instead of "professional" benchmarking). Compare that to 994 [cpubenchmark.net] Passmark of the very popular Intel Celeron N3060 dual 1.6GHz used in comparably priced Windows laptops/Chromebooks.

Service manual in PDF [dell.com] and HTML [dell.com]. Setup and Specification manual in PDF [dell.com] and HTML [dell.com].

Many thanks to prophylaxis for a teardown from the March thread with pictures [imgur.com].

The single 4GB DDR4 SO-DIMM is under the copper heatsink, so replacing it with a 8GB requires removal of copper heatsink (and re-application of heatsink compound). Fun.

This laptop is thicker than many other 11.6" laptops (say, HP Stream 11 and Chromebook 11 which are eMMC only) because the chassis has space for an SATA HDD/SDD, but ...

32GB eMMC storage is soldered on the back of the mainboard. The mainboard has space for SATA port but the connector is not soldered on, so eMMC, SATA HDD/SSD upgrade is out of the question. Maybe the SATA port is intended for higher-end (A9-9420e), future, or overseas-market models?

microSD and USB 3 flash drive upgrade is possible (and highly recommended) for extra storage and to ease Windows 10 upgrading.

WiFi 802.11n / Bluetooth 4 is a M.2 card (Qualcomm Atheros Model QCNFA335) and should be upgradeable to 802.11ac if the BIOS doesn't whitelist specific models (I'm not aware if Dell does whitelisting). Setup guide lists Dell DW1810 / Qualcomm QCNFA435 802.11ac/BT41 card as an option (less than $20 on eBay).

Warning: The antivirus is useless, and it is not really free. Please remove it from your cart.
Otherwise, Best Buy will charge you $30 for the antivirus if you want to return the laptop later.

This could actually be usable.

(Keeping expectations reasonable.)

J.Steinbeck approves for light usage.

eMMC is almost always soldered on. I would wager that the microSD slot will be flush so that can be used for extra storage.

its big data era, why they put 32gig, against mainstream?
It's big enough for the OS, Office, and Chrome.

Assuming it's fast enough to stream (?) from Youtube and Netflix, I'm not sure what else you'd need on a throw-away $130 laptop.

It's big data era in the cloud. They want you to pay for a cloud service.

IMHO I would say yes. Check out LUBUNTU, it has lower system requirements than UBUNTU.
