"good" deal but it's only a lower tier 43" TV. I'll be waiting all year for the 6 series to drop a little more 😪

Totally.
Personally, I was looking for a small bedroom display that does Dolby Vision and has the rokuTV OS, this is pretty much as good as it gets. It's surprisingly hard to find a full featured TV under 45" and in that regard, I considered this unmissable

I believe it's natively 60Hz, might pull some tricks to simulate 120, but I haven't seen 240 mentioned anywhere for this TV

I just saw the 50" version of this tv at Costco for $369.99. with Costco warranty I thought it seemed like a decent deal. How does this match up to the to the recent tv deals under $400?

Here's a good review from RTings [rtings.com]. Doesn't get super bright for HDR content, but if you need a smaller TV under 45", this is a pretty good choice. Also, if you play a lot of video games this TV has very low latency. I'm personally waiting for RTings to review the new 2018 Vizio E series as that's also available in 43", but it has 10 local dimming zones and a higher nit panel (400 nits as advertised).

Does anyone have any thoughts about getting this vs the TCL49S405 49" posted last week for $299? I'm looking for a 4k tv to use with a PS4 Pro. Not sure about the size vs features tradeoff (this is 7" smaller, but is a 5 series rather than 4).

I'm also considering one of the 40-50" Samsung deals at Walmart, but since TCL seems to be very well liked in the entry level tv category, I'm not sure a Samsung would be worth the brickseek hunt. I'm not knowledgeable about tvs, so any input would be greatly appreciated.

This. The P has 500 dollar deal. I ended up with s405 last year model from the $255 wonder if this one was worth the near hundred dollar jump with DV and better colors or are they need near identical beyond that?

There's a pretty good chance that the 4 series is a smidge brighter and has better contrast than the 5, because of fald vs elpd, maybe even less distortion when viewed at angles (a problem with most TCL displays tbh) but in most other respects you can expect better performance/capabilities from the 5 series. Ie: Dolby Vision HDR/better colors, low input lag, much lower profile aesthetic, newer software/hardware.

If you're not much of a stickler and you've got the space for the bigger display, I'd say that's a better pick in your situation. Though neither would be a bad choice really.

What model was that TV? Last I checked, even the 2017 S series 49" was more than $400. I would check it out if the price dropped, even better if it is for the 2018 model.

FYI: Looks like this coupon expires tonight, so use it or lose it. Also, there's a 10% back in Rakuten points today, so you'll get 3,290 points, which is worth nearly $33 on another Rakuten purchase. If that's something you'll actually use, you basically get this set for less than $300.
