Are these better build quality than Dell Inspiron 5000 series? I bought MS store 499 deal almost same except RAM and HDD RPM.

Man, I just bought the Lenovo flex 5 from OD, same specs except only 8gb ram. It was $30 cheaper though and I had an $80 gc.

Time to compare.

I like that the hp does have the full num keypad

Can the HDD be swapped for SSD?

Edit: Found the answer, and it is yes, this device support m.2 SATA up to 512gb per HP service manual located on the support site.

Anyone have this model?

The pro reviews seem to say the screen is dimmer than most...

I have this model. It is well built, but the hinges are loose, I think due to the 360 degree function, so if you're looking to use it on a bumpy plane it becomes difficult to keep the screen in one place. Of course, it may just be mine. The complete metal casing is nice, and the device is a lot thinner than the Dell 5000 series, imo.

With that being said, I do have some odd operation issues with it that I'm going to chalk to the hard drive. I'd like to slap the Samsung EVO 970 m.2 SSD in it, but prying apart the case is a little intimidating, especially because it seems thinner. It is constantly doing Windows updates. I mean, about every other shut off. The device lags considerably when opening programs as well.

Overall, I'm pretty sure once I get around to getting that SSD in, all my odd issues will go away. If so, this is a great computer at a decent price.

One word, yes. I bought both and took the junky dell back. This has solid build and Dell feels like it is only plastic.

So you can keep the existing HDD for storage?

How is the reliability of these machines ? Is it worth to pay $50 extra (60$ with tax) to get 4 years of warranty from Costco (Executive membership + Citi card).
