I have the expensive ($182?)Sonicare that I bought from Costco a couple of years ago. I also have the Series 2 or something that I bought from Amazon for $20 two months ago.

The expensive one has a couple of features(like massaging), but I never use it. It also comes with a couple of very nice hard carrying cases and a UV sanitizer for the brush heads.

I honestly cannot tell the difference between the $182 and $20 models. My dental hygienist said she also couldn't detect the difference.

What's the difference in the base model vs the more expensive models? Stronger motors?

The upper tier ones have better battery technology.

I had a nicer more expensive Soniccare and this one...the battery life was much better on the more expensive model...but at this price it's hard to turn down even if you have to place on the charger much more frequently
