Does self propel makes that much difference for a battery lawn mower?
Thank you

They typically cost $100 - $200 more than their non- propelled versions. Whether you need one is up to you. Many claim due to light weight that it isn't important. I have a hill in my backyard so for me it's worth the upgrade

Between this 40v ryobi and the 80v kobalt? I would probably pick the kobalt but I'm personally probably going to buy the $500 ego self propelled 56v mower and their weed trimmer.

I dislike how kobalt tools cost about 20% more than their greenworks versions and you can't interchange the batteries between greenworks and kobalts even though they're the same manufacturer etc...

My Lowes only seems to stock a couple Kobalt mowers and none of them appealed to me.

I got the Ego 21 self propelled for $399 slickdeal. I have a 5000 sq ft lawn that is medium thickness, NYC area, with some hills but nothing drastic. Its really nice except for 2 issues. 1st is its kind of heavy. I've never used gas but my last mower was a corded one that was 40 lbs. This is 69 pounds with the 7.5 ah battery. I have to carry it up 3 steps for the back yard, and while its not a huge deal it def isn't light. Second, and this is the biggest one, the last 3 times I cut with the mulching attachment on, which is how I usually mow, it leave a bunch of grass clippings along the left wheel. I went to the Ego forums and some people do complain about that, so its not just me.
I just ordered the Ryobi and will compare. I didn't get the Ryobi originally because I didn't know if one 5.0 ah battery would cover my whole lawn. If you read the reviews they are very mixed. Some people report 45 mins run time others report 20 mins. The Ego with 7.5 ah battery did my lawn 2.25 times on one charge using the SP over 50% of the time
The Ryobi mower is brushless which usually helps runtime but the Ego seems to have almost 2 times the runtime , with equal 5.0 ah batteries. The Ryobi is also 49 lbs with the 5.0 ah battery, thats 20 pounds lighter than the Ego. I like the sound of that. So I guess I will see. The Ego fast charger is really quick. Whole 7.5 ah battery in a little over an hour. But when you cut every 5-7 days and its can handle my lawn 2 times over I don't really need a fast charge. I do like the idea of 2 batteries. If one goes bad you have the other. Both Ego and Ryobi have 3 year warranties on the battery, but I'm sure Ego customer service is a lot better, their reputation seems very important to them.
