Monoprice via Rakuten [rakuten.com] has the HP S700 2.5" SATA III 3D NAND 500GB SSD for $87.11 when you apply code SAVE15 -> now MN15 at checkout. Shipping is free.

This beats the current frontpage deal for this drive by about $6. It's also only $7 more than the Inland 480GB SSD that's currently frontpage while being 20GB larger and tax free for most.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Before jumping on any rakuten deal, read this: https://slickdeals.net/f/6018544-rakuten-buy-com-customers-getting-fraudulent-credit-card-charges. FYI, the last post in this thread is dated April 04, 2018 so it looks like the credit card fraud continues and rakuten never owned up to the issue.

Go back and read the comments on the last page of that thread in detail. There's no consistent reporting of CC compromises since 2015. Maybe a handful since then, but they're very speculative. Not writing this to defend Rakuten, just to be sensible.

You just compared it to a drive 2.5X the price. No one buying this is doing so under the assumption they'll be getting bleeding edge performance. If you're going to post a comparison benchmark, at least post one with drives competing in the price range.

The Pro link was an error, I was looking for the standard EVO comparison and just didn't notice it was the Pro model. Agree need apples to apples comparison. Even still the Samsung will probably never be at the same price point as the HP so it is more like an Asian Pear to Apple comparison.

Link fixed to show standard EVO model, results are the same. EVO can be had for $109 AC at microcenter, or $99 if buying other build components.

That's fine and I totally understand why someone would want to pay about $30 extra for the performance gains. Just wanted a fair, reasonable comparison.

It seriously bothers me that I waited multiple years to buy an SSD, always waiting for the prices to go down, and then as soon as I give in and buy one at the old prices, BAM! the price plummets.

You're welcome, America.
