Very tempting. I don't shoot videos and only stills. Would you guys recommend a non variable nd instead?

I once owned this (from B&H) but returned it because when stepped down I got an "X" pattern on it. Some reviews say the same and some say it doesn't do it. So, buyer beware. FYI I've been shooting video for over 15 years and used my fair share of gear.

Variable ND=sketchy (event top brand s can give you uneven results or weird patterns), sht brand variable ND = absolutely no go. IDK why Tiffen being constantly posted recently, avoid them.

A variable ND still reduces the need for having a bunch of filters in your bag, but as the person above me says, variable NDs are notorious for being of lesser quality (kinda like primes vs zooms). I would say for a stills shooter just get higher quality single-stop NDs b/c you'll notice quality loss more in a still.

I have a different model 58mm variable nd filter from Tiffen (probably older discontinued model) and works good, no uneven pattern issues or anything.

These prices seem good because even the model I have goes for well over $100
