Is that the measurement of how much energy it can absorb before it fails? When it fails, it will still cut off the power so that the plugged in devices won't be burnt, right? In other words, it may have short lifetime, but is as safe as others with higher joules?

When it fails it will become a normal power strip and your devices are left unprotected against power surges. Only a few
surge protectors will actually stop working entirely.

It is more about clamping down and stopping the surges not about absorbing the energy. In other words strong surges like lightning strikes, possibly blown transformers etc, are too strong for these to prevent damage to your equipment due to the surge getting past the low protection rating.

Clamping down IS absorbing energy, that's how you clamp it.

Bought these or similar on the last deal. They seem high quality to me and I'm pleased with the purchase. Haven't had any power surges to my knowledge though.

1080J is extremely weak

CyberPower B604T for example at 1350 and that is the lowest i'd be willing to go. they were $5.49 a pop from the Newegg deal

i don't understand how this went FP
