HP has nasty firmware bugs. This thing has the intel SSD which is messing up windows 10 updates. In linux, the power management does not work reliably and the bios locks it into low power mode (8W at 15GHz). The screen is nice tho.

Depends on what you want to use it for. The XPS has a MUCH better graphics card. The screen is larger too, good thing or bad thing depending on your use case. The CPU is newer but it's about the same speed.

Spec wise, this one is better. Current gen i7, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD for a $100 more. Tax free for some. It's suppose to be cheaper because it is a refurb. Just a little over 3 lbs. That's a big plus for me.

It's only 30 days as far as I can tell.

"Returns

For the first 30 days from date of receipt of your purchase you may return the merchandise for a full money back refund, excluding any shipping charges"

with these specs/graphics this would probably be in the same category as an xps 13 instead of the 15

Could you please elaborate on why the graphics card is bad? (Especially from the point of view of a non-gamer doing graphics design.)

My current laptop is dying, so I can no longer wait until late next year for Intel CPU bug fixes with Ice Lake or newer, and need to get something ASAP.

I am not a gamer, but I do need something I can load Linux on, and have lots of RAM for running VM images for Windows & Mac, especially for graphics design (Gimp, Photoshop, Illustrator) and sofftware development.

With 4k display, 16GB ram, 512GB SSD, and quad core CPU, this checks all of my boxes.

The only thing is that it appears to be missing is the HP touch pen from the Spectre x360 line, but I cannot see myself paying hundreds of dollars more for that.

Ive read that MX150 in this particular laptop is heavily heat throttled and barely performs better than the Intel Graphics after about 5 minutes of gaming.

The MX150 in a properly cooled laptop (ie Lenovo 720S) is actual a very good budget GPU and is around a GTX 960M in performance.

the mx 150 is around the old gefore m950

here some 2016 games

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5) Full HD, Low (Check settings) Full HD, Medium (Check settings) Full HD, Max (Check settings)
GeForce MX150 2GB GDDR5 77 fps 29 fps – fps
GeForce GTX 1050 4GB GDDR5 (Laptop) 96 (+24.7%) fps 61 (+110%) fps 19 fps

Rise of the Tomb Raider (2016) Full HD, Low (Check settings) Full HD, Medium (Check settings) Full HD, Max (Check settings)

GeForce GTX 1050 4GB GDDR5 (Laptop) 70 (+75%) fps 48 (+84.6%) fps 19 (+137.5%) fps

in case you are not an gamer i guess you will not feel much difference in gimp or photoshop.
but still and gen 8 intel cpu with an slow old nvida graphics is a no buy for me.
