Actually, it wouldn't be stupid to skip way ahead. I have completed Yakuza 6 and it is a stand-alone amazing game! Some significance may be lost for not having played previous Yakuza games, but it is very VERY minor! And if you must know what happened in previous titles, Yakuza 6 provides a summary for each game in the franchise to catch you up as well as an biography of every character in the game and why they are important. I've personally only played Yakuza 4, Kiwami, and Yakuza 0. Trust me, PLAY YAKUZA 6 ASAP!

Not really, no. More like Shenmue.

I really want to play this, but I've only played 0 and Kiwami and it'd be stupid to skip waaaaay ahead in the story. Awaiting Kiwami 2.

It's probably because people who downloaded the original demo got the full game for free. My guess.

It's not as good as Yakuza 0 so not that surprised.

This game was released around the same time God of War was. So depending on how well the game sold, maybe it is part of the reason why it is on sale now.

It would not be stupid to play Yakuza 6 without playing the previous games. I've completed Yakzua 6 and it is a stand-alone amazing game as is! If you need knowledge of the previous games, Yakuza 6 provides a summary for every game in the series and a biography for each character explaining who they are! I've personally only played Yakuza 4 and Kiwami prior to finishing Yakuza 6 and that did not stop me from enjoying the game. Sure, there may be some significance lost for not playing ALL the games, but it's very VERY minor.
Story wise you're right, but I feel like it would be infuriating to go from the Dragon Engine gameplay in 6 to the non-dragon gameplay of 3-5. The seamless transitions are a luxury I never want to give up.

Small note, I feel like actually 0 should be played almost last, there were so many references to people you meet in later games that were cool to uncover. And those references are really the only reason to play the games in any sort order since the stories are not all that shocking. I mean I can't even summarize Yakuza 3 even after reading the wikipedia article lol.

Well if there is a section in yakuza 6 which recaps the whoke story you can pick and chose all the series to understand.as i was in the same boat as you.so i am playing it right now and will play others when released.it will be like watching star wars 4,5,6 first and then 1,2,3

I don't like jumping around, there's still a timeline and a flow with how these characters and the games evolved and progressed.

The release of the remasters with Kiwami 1 and 2 plus the newly announced 3/4/5 really screwed things up with how I want to tackle them.

I already have this one but I'm going to wait for the chronological order with Kiwami 2 in fall, having played 4 --> 0 --> 1 (Kiwami) in that order. Wish they released them before 6 but they didn't know the success of 0 at that time.
