Anything you consider important should follow the 3-2-1 backup rule, there should never be just one copy: https://www.hanselman.com/blog/Th...Three.aspx

At the very least you should use a RAID 1 (mirror) with 2 drives to duplicate data, but ideally a dedicated network based storage appliance with multi-drive redundancy.

The value of these drives comes from usage inside NAS systems or as non-mission critical bulk storage (media collections, etc).

Good deal. Why do they just randomly drop the price on a Tuesday? I've been watching the Sunday sales for months for this deal but just went in on the target 4tb deal.

just got in on the last ebay/bestbuy deal. Works great for my plex server but my older psu did need a sata adapter. My drive was a white label drive. First time shucking and glad I finally attempted it instead of buying a much more expensive retail drive.

Some say there's a white label on them but still have 256mb cache.
I bought 2 so I'll test my luck and return if needed. Thanks for the heads up

Everything you ever wanted to know about these and more is here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoar...ompendium/

The different internal drive models:

Drive Model
WD80EFAX 8TB WD Red, 256MB cache Preferred by many due to higher cache

WD80EFZX 8TB WD Red, 128MB cache Works for most

WD80EMZZ 8TB WD "White label", 128MB cache Latest addition to the family. It can be assumed this is similar to the WD80EMAZ to WD80EFAX situation: Just the white label version of the WD80EFZX. Seemingly no 3.3v PIN worries, though.

WD80EMAZ 8TB WD "White label", 256MB cache Seems identical to WD80EFAX, but potential problems for older devices you may plug in to.
