Make sure you use the code provided here and not the one on Newegg's site that auto-loads. Their coupon only does 10% off, this one is much better! Great deal--I got 2 (still need a third though). Thanks!

Anyone with experience using this switch?
Does it do VLANs?
Does it pair with the ER-X?

No POE, it's powered by POE and let that power passthrough.

If the switch is being PoE powered by 802.at source (injector or otherwise) on port 1 then it can supply 802.af on port 8. I found the answer here and pasted it below for reference: Source: https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/236215747-UniFi-Powering-a-US-8-Switch-and-Connected-Devices

The following table, found in the US-8 Quick Start Guide, shows passthrough voltage on PoE Out for supported power inputs:

PoE in (Port1)
802.3at
48V Passive

Passthrough PoE Out (Port 8)
802.3af
48V Passive

OR

DC Input (Power Adapter)
48VDC Input (Included)

Passthrough PoE Out (Port 8)
48V Passive (2-Pair)

Note the difference between 802.3af and 802.3at (commonly called PoE+). 802.3af provides up to 12.95W of continuous power, while 802.3at delivers up to 25.5W.

See UniFi - Powering a US-8 Switch and Connected Devices [ubnt.com]

It supports 802.3af PoE output only if 802.3at is coming into port 1 as PoE in.

So if you use the included DC power adapter, the PoE passthrough port can only be used w/ 48V PoE devices (i.e. you cannot turn off PoE on the passthrough port)? I always found passive PoE to be rather confusing.

Also, why not just not just get this Netgear 8-port PoE switch [newegg.com]? Same price, but 4x 802.3af ports right out the box.

So I can only power one device on port 8? I have couple of AC pros I want to install from the attic at various places

Similar question. If I want to replace having to use 4 injectors and 4 power outlets at my houses main box to throw POE to my 4 unifi devices what do I need?

You would probably want to look at the US-8-60w switch instead. That one provides PoE on ports 5-8.
