Women's Altra Escalante Running Shoe [jackrabbit.com] $77.98
Men's Altra Escalante Running Shoe [jackrabbit.com] $77.98

Best For:
  • Surface: Road, Gyms, Flats
  • Category: Neutral Cushioned ヨ Intended for runners who have a higher, more stable arch that does not pronate excessively(roll inwards) or may even supinate(roll outwards). Neutral Cushioned shoes offer very little or no structure or pronation support and are generally more flexible than stability shoes. Runners who require a neutral shoe tend to notice more excessive wear on the lateral(outside) side of the soles of their running shoes. Neutral shoes can vary from lightweight and minimal cushioning to maximum levels of cushioning depending on the needs and preferences of the runner. Runners with high/stable arches tend to notice pain on the outside(lateral side) of their shins and knees and may also battle plantar fasciitis if not wearing a neutral cushioned shoe.
Benefits Include:
  • New compound foam midsole
  • Metatarsal mapping
  • Performance last for fast training and racing
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Really comfortable shoes, but be warned these lack any sore of lateral stability, making them hard to wear for every day shoes. I bought these to wear to work and found it too hard to walk on uneven surfaces. Great cushioning though

Damn it. I just bought these shoes 2 weeks ago for full price. Altra makes my favorite running shoes now. I have wide feet and with the engineered knit it is very comfortable.

I agree. I have a wide forefoot, but fairly unremarkable otherwise. I also ran barefoot a lot, so I like zero drop shoes or close to it. I got a pair of the Instinct 4 and was like "Wow! This is what it's like to have a shoe that fits!" I got a second pair almost immediately.

They're also generally not as ugly as other running sneakers, so they can be worn around in a pinch.

Torin is much better IMO. I've tried these for a few hundred miles and not a fan

Great price and I have the Escalante as my everyday casual wear. Altra is the only brand I buy now and anyone that has flat/wide feet or wants zero drop should check them out. I don't run in the Escalante because I think they have too much cushion but they're perfect for casual wear - like walking on clouds.

For comparison, I have the Torin, Lone Peak, and Provision for running.

These are amazing shoes but take some serious breaking in if you haven't tried zero-drop running shoes before. My calves were killing me over the first several dozen miles.

In the market for running shoes. Had pain on my knee. Dr said knee is OK, but could use better cushion when running. Are these any good for running on the pavement/sidewalk? TIA

I have the Torin IQ (basically the 2.5), which is my go-to running shoe. I've never tried the Escalante. How does it compare to the Torins for those who actually run in them and is sizing pretty comparable between the 2? I've found the Torin to be true-to-size. Thanks.
