I have been using this tripod for years, plus the pistol grip head, and love it! Very comfortable to use, tons of features and positions (including ground level), and very sturdy. It can be a bit heavy on long trips, but I was able to use it a walking stick during a difficult hike to and from the basin of Linville Falls in NC. Smilie

This is the one I have, which is also on sale: https://www.adorama.com/vgt263agh.html

I used to own this one( gave to my uncle semi-recently) It is very nice and very sturdy (if not using the middle section). technically light weight for what it does, but its much too large and heavy for actual travel on a plane in most cases.

It was awesome for leaving in my car and just being there when I needed it for whatever I needed it for, but I rarely used it.

Note the middle extension, like most, is very prone to movement/vibration and should not be used in windy conditions even weighted down. Certainly performed poorly when doing long exposures.

I received it as a gift. I feel like its ok for travel but its not exactly feather weight. Overall Its ok, I like how it functions and it feels like a decent tripod but I have been disappointed too many times with QC/quality issues to recommend it. Upon arrival there is some sort of goofy part that I had to superglue back together (not worth sending off for) Some little piece of metal that sticks to this reducer sheath that locks in the center column. Then about 3 months later the ball head pan lock stopped working. Sent that out for repair. Item came back with that issue fixed but a new problem. The shoe mount would jostle from left to right and wouldn't hold firm. This time they just sent me a new (refurbed) head.

The plus is that it comes with a lifetime warranty, but you have to pay for shipping which can get expensive should you have to send the whole thing back. Thankfully it was just the ball head.

Thanks for the review. What tripod(s) would you recommend in its place?

I bought this tripod september. Used it like 2 times for a graduation and trip. Today found thta one of the legs lock mechanism isnt locking. There's two levels of locking and on one leg it doesn't lock on the first level. Im sure they'll fix it for me but i will have to call them tomorrow to see the info on that process.

I've had mine for the past nine years and have no complaints. I also have the manfrotto be free tripod and it's not the same category because the manfrotto one is much lighter and it's more suitable for travel. This tripod is definitely more for nature or long exposure photography is requires when using a heavier DSLR camera and lens. I pair my 5D mk ii and sigma 150-600 mm lens! Just be careful when using on sand! I put my legs in plastic bags first Big Grin

Not good for hiking. Weight is 5.52lbs. You can get a Neewer Carbon Fiber (66 inch model) for under $100 & weights a tad less. Includes a case. $93.

I am also happy with the Neewer 66 inch carbon fiber. But make sure to sand down the edges and corners of the sharp parts as they will cut your skin with hard bumps. Best tripod/monopod so far I've had. And for the price you get carbon fiber good height, great portability and size especially when compacted and the monopod capability. The only things I don't like are that it doesn't have a level for the base and the tripod head is sort of difficult compared to the Monoprice one I've used. I also like the turn clamps vs latches after practice.

Anyone like the upgraded version over the original? Amazon warehouse has the original for ~$80!
