Atmos speakers that reflect the sound off the ceiling can sound better since the reflected sound can diffuse and sound more natural than direct downfiring ceiling mounted speakers.

Wrong. Up firing is more common due to the cost prohibitive nature of in ceiling. Not to mention if you're in an apartment or condo, cutting hole in your ceiling and walls probably isn't feasible.

These are Atmos capable. Dual binding posts in the back, with an extra driver on top of the speaker that fires sound upward. If the term Atmos means nothing to you then you probably don't need these speakers.

You misunderstand my question. The "A" in the model number I asked about is the Atmos version. I can't find this model number on Pioneer's website.

You are right, my apologies.

It is not unusual for massdrop items to have unique product numbers even if it is ostensibly the same product. Though in this case looks like a typo in the title as the correct model number is In the description.

How do these compare to the Pioneer SP-T22A-LR? I got those from a previous massdrop deal and wouldn't mind upgrading

Can't comment on the quality of these speakers, but I disagree that upfiring speakers are a gimmick. I have 2 pairs of some Klipsch upfiring speakers for my setup and I feel like the sound is coming down right on top of me.
