Hoka One One Clifton 4 Running Shoe [jackrabbit.com] $79.98
Best For:
  • Surface: Road, Gyms, Flats
  • Category: Neutral Cushioned ヨ Intended for runners who have a higher, more stable arch that does not pronate excessively(roll inwards) or may even supinate(roll outwards). Neutral Cushioned shoes offer very little or no structure or pronation support and are generally more flexible than stability shoes. Runners who require a neutral shoe tend to notice more excessive wear on the lateral(outside) side of the soles of their running shoes. Neutral shoes can vary from lightweight and minimal cushioning to maximum levels of cushioning depending on the needs and preferences of the runner. Runners with high/stable arches tend to notice pain on the outside(lateral side) of their shins and knees and may also battle plantar fasciitis if not wearing a neutral cushioned shoe.
Benefits Include:
  • Open engineered mesh construction to maximize breathability and support
  • Full EVA midsole provides signature HOKA ONE ONE cushioning
  • Moderate heel bevel provides smooth heel transition

Found this on the JR website: Sizing Note: It is important to note that Hoka shoes run mostly true to size - so the best place to start is with the size you typically wear in a running shoe. We have found the Bondi 4 and Clifton to run slightly more narrow than other models, so if you have wide feet considering trying a half size up to give you more volume.

I recommend the Clifton 3 over the 4. So do a lot of people... That's why Hoka brought the 3 back in new colors.

I'm no running hero or nothing, but the 4's didn't feel right. I have the 3 (black and turquoise) and am happy.

Amazing shoes. I'm on my second pair and they are a lifesaver for runners with gimped feet. The clifton is the best I've tried so far. Perfect fit for a normal size 12 foot. The clayton ran a little narrow.

Get the Napalis from running warehouse, they are suppose to be the Clifton 3s in disguise

Clifton 3 is best shoe I've ever owned. I have 3 pairs, hoarding to have backups.

Thanks for the tip! Been a huge fan of the Clifton 1s. Every new version the shoe gets heavier and clunkier. I have a new pair of Clifton 4s I haven't tried yet so from the reviews they will be interesting. I just ordered a pair of the Napalis from RW. Fingers crossed.

Can runners educate on why this shoe receives so much positivity? What are opinions about the toe striking vs heel striking? (It looks like to me this would be a heel striking shoe?)

Toe-strikers are usually sprinters.

mid-foot is probably what you mean. the extra cushion of these shoes are good for heal strikers but this wouldn't be bad if you are a mid-foot striker.

This is a neutral running shoe. Its lightweight but provides maximum support and cushion without added weight. Running wearhouse .com has some good descriptions
