Max-Q is on average 10-15% less powerful than non Max-Q versions. That said, they are regulated better for lower power use meaning they stay cooler and quieter while delivering better battery life.

thunder bolt 3 on this is nice too for egpu options

Love the ips panel, but not the 7th gen i5 or max-q 1060. Though from reviews max-a should handle 1080p gaming fine

I haven't bought a notebook in about 5 years so I'm totally out of the loop. Is this a good bang for buck notebook?

I'm looking to stay under $1000 (preferably under $800) for a 15.6 inch multimedia laptop with enough power to run a few modern games at medium-high settings. Just casual gaming, I don't have time for heavy gaming anymore.

Mostly keeping it at home so not worried about battery life.
Are there any good ~$1000 notebooks I should keep an eye on if they go on sale?

another good deal for a GTX 1060 notebook. just make sure you monitor those temps folks, and only use this on hard flat surfaces, the vents need as much airflow as possible

I have the same thing with same specs. I do use it for Photoshop and for games like overwatch, far cry primal etc which runs with no issues at all. Screen is little bit dull but performance wise this laptop is a more than average kind of. I would recommend this laptop.

GTX 1060 Max-Q is not a full blown 1060, I believe it slots between the 1050ti and the regular 1060. PASS

For this price, you will get 1080p 60 FPS all day long with all AA titles. On high details. That's good enough for many gamers. If you want to move up to 1440p or 4K gaming or 120hz panel with 60fps this is not for you. But you have the option to go egpu and external display of your choice. You are not going to do much better with this price unless you go outlet. I picked up a 7577 with i7 and 16g I'd ram for the same price including tax last week.

Dell service manual states this laptop supports max 256GB SSD or 512GB .M2. Seems like a typo, why wouldnt it support a 512GB or 1TB SSD?
