This looks like a good deal and was planning to jump on it. But after reading the many negative reviews on Amazon (most of them recent) and on Costco.com, I've decided against it. Great concept and features but doesn't appear to work very well at all. Read through the reviews before you decide to buy.

I have one , 2 companions and 3 floodlights. All work well enough. need decent internet connection but works just fine.

It's usually installed above the door, 720p shooting right to the face, I think that's very good enough for see the face clearly.
It's not those for far range that requires hires for digital zoom.

However, I assume it's not onvif compatible for connecting to my nvr and onvif app, so not interested in it.

This a great price! I have 4 of them, bought them when 2 years ago from Getkuna.com, they were close to $200 each then, Maximus is the brand that Lowes and Homedepot carries. Had issues with one of them just stop working after a year, got in touch with customer support and they replaced it with a new one, Works perfect for the front door, I have set to say" Hi can I help you" and the people usually jumped and start talking to it. I can talk back via the app thru my phone.
You get the free plan where video footage is saved for 2 hours and 1 download per month with the camera. Lots of features in the app, vehicle vs people detection, zone and sensitivity settings. My kids love the different holiday greetings you can change it to. I pay $119.99 for the year for my 4 cameras. Video is held for 14 days and video download is unlimited I think.
I like it because its a clean install, replacing the porch light that comes with the house, no wires or the odd ball camera sticking out.
2 gripes I have, 720p video and night motion detection isnt that great if its not set up at the front door.

I bought these at overstock.com and first installed one with no problems at all. I decided to do two more and suddenly got offline wifi issues. No matter how many times I tweaked things according to the website help, I could never resolve this. I was past the 30 day return, but after taking to a customer rep, they let me return for a full refund.

even 1080p cams, people mount them so high. hell even those cameras that boast higher than 1080P still isn't good enough to be able to read license plate of a car from the street. This works great for close counters. For those who have one right by the front door or right by the garage door, it can get a clear enough image of person's face. And works great at notifying you.

This is proprietary system. Dont think you can record offline using onboard storage like SD card because there is none. Or be able to use it with NVR and onvif compatibility.

Think of this like Ring, Nest, and all the other mediocre beginner cloud base security system.

BUT what makes this better is because it looks like a standard accent light that most people already have but has a built in camera. So most people passing by, even right up next to it wont know theres a camera.

That ring spotlight is so obvious and other similar products.

For people who are complaining about 720P. I've seen "1080P" from ring, nest, skybell, etc. These are cloud based systems and although the resolution is higher, doesnt mean the actual image quality is any better. These are cloud based after all, the footage is compressed to hell with all these systems with prob very low bitrate. "1080P" with these systems seem more for marketing ploy. The 720P "QUALITY" of the maximus is just as good if not better with the rest in this class of cloud base systems. Stretch the picture to 1080P and you probably wont notice much difference from the other systems who claim to natively record at that resolution. Now if your comparing it to a true POE system with on board storage or to NVR with much higher bitrate recording then sure you have an argument. Those systems even running at 720P demolish these cloud base systems claiming 1080P. Almost like megapixel war with digital cameras.

The algorithm and motion detection of the maximus is much better than the competitors. I've found less false positives, and always catches the motion at the right time. It has a buffer of some kind and even shows several seconds (more than ring or skybell's similar feature) before the actual motion or event.

Also very easy install. It's as easy as swapping out the light fixture mounted to your home. No need for any fancy wiring or compatibility with transformer like ring and having to use a resistor or something.

The common bad reviews and complaints youll notice is along the same ones you see across all these cloud based security systems. Thats the biggest issue with this. Thats why ring, this, skybell, nest, etc--you find all similar complaints. Not connecting, disconnecting etc. There are SOOOO MANY FACTORS on one's home network and wireless setup. You can't really go with a lot of people's claim about the connecting issues because your network setup will probably be completely different. And thats why I always say if you can go for a real POE system. My experience with this maximus system has been very stable for the most part. Had some issues at the beginning going offline due to what Maximus said was due to the channel of the wireless network. I also have experience with Skybell HD (trim plus) where I had 0 issues, while many others claim to have issues. So its very hard to really believe one's claim about connectivity. So many different factors.

But when setup properly and working. It's been reliable. The free plan means you only have a small window to review your videos, and you can only download a certain amount per month. So their free service is definitely more restrictive, but compared to the other big players in this cloud base, maximus provides one of the best (at least for me) in terms of overall experience and reliability.

Hi MoisesA7010,

I really enjoyed the review and write up. Thanks

Question - do you know if this model is able to embed time stamps?
I've seen some Kuna videos without time stamps and some with.

As far as I've always known the time is embeded. There is no setting at all to remove it.

Also to add for potential buyers, you are essentially buying a decorative light that has so much more capabilities.

https://www.homedepot.com/b/Light...=99617:1:0

Some of those are already $50-70, so $99 for this is a steal.

I forgot to add on my last post, it also has built in motion sensor for the light to turn on. Obviously you can turn on and off the light from the app.
I believe it added alexa/google home function but very limited--I think you can ask to turn on the light (or off) thats about it. You can set the light on a timed schedule, or automatic dusk/dawn. It also has 2 way intercom. Speaker is pretty loud. I would say louder than Ring or Skybell. It has this cool feature where it plays an automatic message when it detects motion. I guess it all depends on the placement. I know some homes have a big walkway/patio area at their door thats covered and have a decorative light against the wall. You replace it with this and it would work great because it will concentrate solely on that area and the automatic message will be more useful. I have this just off to the side of the garage and I keep this feature disabled because it just doesnt make sense and will give away that the light has a camera. And because it will see a lot more motion facing the driveway and street, I just dont want it saying stuff out of the blue regularly.

But I know if I had a light fixture right by the front door, this product is superior to a ring doorbell or skybell from experience of all 3. Other than Maximus/Kuna being really restrictive on their free plan.

A big negative I would say is that there is no IR camera and the light source this depends on is really the built in light since its a light fixture obviously. Depending on placement and how the camera is angled----which by the way I forgot to mention, there is some degree of being able to position the built in camera. Its not entirely fixed so you can fine tune it's position. But depending onfactors like that and other light sources around, picture at night with the light on may have so much glare.

Thanks Moises

Definitely a good deal at $99 for the base product compared to many other products from Ring, Nest, Arlo,... If we could access the local rtsp stream this would be killer

I've just been reviewing Kuna video captures on youtube and some have time stamps and some do not.

Dangit... I bought these in May for $140 each. Does Costco do price matching if something goes on sale?

PS I had them installed 2 days ago and really like them. Except I forgot to tell the pool guy that I had set up the barking dogs noise when someone got close to the camera. He was walking to the gate and heard the dogs and ran back to his truck. D'oh!
