I bought these 3 years ago when they were a slickdeal. They are fine, but I'm not sure they are worth $43.

As a tool you use everyday? Yeah. As something you use once every three months? Not so much. But someone who needs it on a more regular basis probably already owns a pair Smilie

All these Knipex deals can be had at Zoro when they have their 20-25% off sales and you don't have to pay tax.

That's a fair answer. Probably is worth more to someone who uses it more than I do. But the writeup says "Easy Cutting Of Any Wire Up To 1/4-inch". You would have to be a great deal stronger than me to do that.

Looks like the typical amazon price for these is in the $48-52 range. Not sure this is slick enough to justify buying it just 'cause, but if you use this sort of thing often maybe it's a good idea to pick some up.

Not the kind of tool you use every day. They're not dykes or linesman pliers...

Maybe if i installed razor wire for a living or barbed wire. Something that requires cutting something THAT stiff often.

Knipex are top tier tools though.

Can I use these to cut cattle/horse panel, or do I need to stick with my lopper style bolt cutters?

I really feel like a pair of $28, 24" bolt cutters would be more versatile for most people, for the price. Personally, most of the time when I need more than a pair of cutting pliers, it's because something needs more leverage.

These are pretty specific: unless you're professionally doing a LOT of medium wire/cable cutting where the extra features (basically, the spring loading, locking, and "comfort grip") are going to improve your experience because you use them enough to notice, you're paying a lot for what you're getting in terms of utility: there's nothing special these do mechanically, you're still just getting 8" of leverage to cut with.

And granted, there's plenty of hand sized cable cutters in the ~8" range that are spring loaded and probably perform pretty equally going by reviews, like these [amazon.com].

Not going so far as TDing, but I really can't see this as a slick deal for most people, either, not at $43. If they were more like half that I'd probably have ordered a pair, because I do a fair amount of wire cutting and could use a nice hand sized set for dealing with cable that's a little thicker than is comfortable with my cutting pliers or wire stripper/cutters, but for this price I could order a different pair of spring loaded cable cutters AND a longer pair of bolt cutters.

The regular grip, non cobalt cutting blades run this much. Great deal!

only thing I don't like about these cutters is the dumb round barrel type closure you have to rotate to lock and unlock them.
