Exactly. Mine is more in the center, but still visible unevenness. For something this expensive I don't think I can live with it https://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima...lies/frown.gif
Yep, I didn't see your post. Looks like I was typing mine at the same time.

Kind of in limbo. I don't want to hassle transferring MS office, files, warranty, etc., if returning it is in my future. Typing this on my 8 year old Dell Inspirion. 5010, which has been a workhorse with zero issues.

Just replying back for others. Dell has transferred the ownership under my name. The warranty was extended to 6/12/19.
Dell emailed me today, saying "Dell Warranty and Ownership Transfer - DO NOT RESPOND - COMPLETED". But when I checked the warranty again, it's still saying Feb. 2019. Did you call Dell to get it extended to June 2019?

Update: Called Dell and emailed the rep a scan of the receipt. Warranty now expires on 6/4/2019. (Invoice dated 6/3/2018). I am overall happy with the laptop.

I just got off the phone with Dell support. Even though I didn't think the screen uniformity issue was anything I could fix. (I wasn't sure if these may have local dimming LEDs that can be tweeked?) I figured better to try them to see if anything can be done on my end.

Not impressed with Dell support. Spoke to a couple and you can tell they wear poor Bluetooth headsets. Bad audio and poor background noise rejection...when the rep speaks fast with an accent, very frustrating.

Anyway, they were no help. He said I just needed to update drivers. When I said they are all up to date, he asked if I checked setting for the Nvidea card. When I asked if he could walk me through that, he shifted to asking for photos from me. I said, you need photos from me for an issue so well documented already with photos online? This was the the upper tier XPS team. How could they possibly not know what I'm talking about?

Well, at least I can tell BuyDig that I tried.

Congrats to those who got good units.

I just wanted to comment that having never used BuyDig before, they have been great to deal with so far. Worked with Greg over there for this and FedEx hold for pick up.

Got RMA with prepaid labels emailed and no restock fee, as long as item is in original packaging, etc.

Update on my end(Had the dead battery out of box) Dell tech came and installed a new battery, Waited while I configured the newest BIOS 1.9.4(someone mentioned the BIOS update bricked the motherboard) Been using the laptop for a couple days battery life is excellent and I contacted dell about warranty transfer and now my warranty is good thru 6/5/2019. My screen also looks fine.

Since running updates, including BIOS, I swear my screen is more uniform. I took photos and there's definitely a before and after and I feel like I'm going nuts because that would be a hardware thing and not a system thing? I may end up holding onto my unit, I don't know. I do notice some backlight bleed though. Still debating keeping it or ponying up to a 2015 macbook pro since I really just want something with a good screen for photo editing - my chromebook has been perfect for everything else.

I tried all the updates Dell had and even some newer ones from Intel and Nvidea.

I called Dell again and they want to try and fix it. Said turn around is pretty fast for onsite tech to receive and then replace the screen.

Figure I'll give it a shot. Not seeing any better deals out there.

Yeah, the screen discrepancy is still there on mine, just a little less visible when more at eye level - but still super aggravating. I'm only looking at $1k laptops for accurate color and this just isn't gonna work for me.

Good luck with your screen repair! R/dell has some horror stories, even with premium support where they do the repairs on site Frown It is a wonderful computer, I just don't want to be stuck playing a screen lottery. Or dealing with throttling (lots of people have repasted their 9560s because of heat, evidently), etc. I have been considering asking them to repair it too, though.

Thanks,

You know it's kinda funny. I ended up canceling the repair and the unit is now on it's way back to BuyDig!

I found another terrible flaw with the XPS last night and it was the last straw.

When opened on your lap, as the lid lifts...if the person is wearing short pants, the bottom lid metal edge grabs the skin, bunches it up and then squeezes it inside and against the chassis metal edge. If one is flipping up the lid quickly and not expecting such a thing could happen, it can be very painful and severe, since there is so much leverage from the top of the lid! After it happened to me, I googled and sure enough, just like the other XPS issues I encountered, there were other victims as well. I'll survive, it was just too much. Finished with these.
