Klipsch Heritage Wireless Three Wi-Fi Bluetooth Speaker w/Phono Input $260 Refurbished

Woot [woot.com] has the reconditioned Klipsch Heritage Wireless Three Tabletop Speaker for $259.99. Free standard shipping for Prime members. Think there was a previous refurb deal for $80 more which didn't get any play, and used like new ones are going for $350 on Amazon.

Seems like an unbelievably cheap price for the quality and capability of this speaker. 60w RMS w/ two 2.25" full range speakers and a 5 1/4" long throw woofer w/two passive radiators for bass duties. Does hi res streaming (192-kHz/24-bit) multi room audio with Klipsch's wifi setup. Has Bluetooth (apt-x) as well, and includes a Phono Input via the RCA's and a switch to use the built in preamp. Haven't seen a Phono Input on any speaker in this category. Maybe I didn't look hard enough (Kanto makes one for $350) . Cheapest on ebay is $350 new from a non retailer.

I like the retro design especially if it's something for the home considering all the bullet/tube shapes of most bluetooth speakers out there.

It's reviewed extremely well.

Seems like of you want a single cabinet do it all speaker for the home, this is hard to beat at this price.

Good deal. I've been waiting for a sale on The Three. The lowest I've seen previously was $280 refurbished from Amazon/Woot!. Open boxes have dropped to $300 a few times. Sales tax is the only holding me back from jumping on this deal.

For what it's worth a new version of The Three with Google Assistant is supposed to come out in the fall. It won't have any of the connections like USB or a phono pre-amp like this one does though, it will just be WiFi/Bluetooth.

If it was me I'd get this version then and use a Mini or Dot with it.

I'm still on the fence between chromecast audio and Dots for multi room audio. The CCA's seem more seamless as a Sonos replacement. But the Dot would be an all in one solution for a Mini and CCA.

Call me ignorant, but how does this compare to something like the HK go+play or even Homepod in terms of sound?

I wish I could tell you. Would think the Klipsch should sound better than both, but I'd probably check out the reviews I posted and see if they reviewed either of the two and see if they tested them with similar material.

You are looking at three very different speakers in that trio as far as looks, design and capabilities. I'd also look at what your needs or wants are too. The HK is the only portable one in the bunch. It's also the only BT only speaker. Granted the wifi capabilities if the other two are rather proprietary. Apple's is more limited, but if you play in Apple's camp, it could be worthwhile. And I haven't really checked it out since I have no interest in Apple gear, but it's only way to play music is via Airplay. No BT capability. A bit limiting. Unless they've changed that with an update.

The hk go play probably sounds as good as this while being smaller and portable.
The klipsch is bigger and looks cooler sitting on a media center with a turntable hooked up to it though (and phono stages can be $100 for a decent one which the klipsch has built in)

It's not meant to be. That's why it's part of their wifi multiroom system.

From a HomePod review [computeraudiophile.com] I recall reading a couple of months ago:
Quote :
Maybe a little value can be gleaned from discussing how the HomePod compares to a similar speaker, The Three from Klipsch ($499 45Hz ~20kHz @ -3dB). Setting aside the functionality of the speakers (Klipsch has far better functionality for those who want to listen to music, HomePod has Siri), and focussing on sound quality, I prefer The Three from Klipsch. It has a much more balanced sound than the HomePod. Eddie Vedder's Society was very enjoyable through The Three as opposed to the HomePod. I A/B'd them for twenty minutes to make sure I heard what I thought I heard. I honestly expected the HomePod to put the Klipsch unit to shame, but that wasn't the case. In my comparisons The Three from Klipsch was the 1980 US olympic hockey team that beat the Russian HomePod in the miracle on ice. OK, that's a bit far fetched, but given it's olympic time in South Korea, that was on my mind. Listening to several other tracks, I couldn't help but think the HomePod was better suited to be The Three's subwoofer if such a configuration existed.

I saw this one at the bar at work and was super amazed by the sound it puts out. It was sitting on the counter in the middle of the room with a 25+ foot ceiling in an open office environment and I was a good 40+ foot away, yet I heard it. The volume was lower too, since the music was played as background music. Good price, but I think it was the same on Amazon not too long ago. Definitely on my list of things to buy. Tempting.
