I got excited about this until I saw the LG G7 ThinQ reviews...and yah the battery life is terrible. Otherwise, if you want an S9 and can't afford it, then this is a decent deal as the two devices are painfully similar.

Nah, the S9 has faster security updates and the better display, camera, battery life, and samsung pay.

3000mah on 5.8" is excellent but is horrible on 6" screen. Ridiculous. You are reading reviews where somebody was using it on full brightness, or 50% brightness. Note that this phone has 1000nits and those battery life comparisons are bad. See the real one on phone arena.

Samsung S9 has broken notifications, like any other Samsung, as they don't follow what either Android stock or iOS do. The screen doesn't wakeup on notifications, raise to wake screen is not implemented, often notifications don't popup while you are working on your phone.
People complain that actually some of these DO work for them and their phone is behaving like iphone and they would like to change then as they like the Samsung approach. Some of them, like myself, complain thy would like iphone approach. Still, the forums and zillion messages there didn't offer the solution to either group of people. Simply, nothing helps. What's for sure is that the Samsung software doesn't offer configurability regarding this.

I can't live with a phone that doesn't show me notifications (yea, "LED is your friend").

Note that the curved glass is exposed even with the case. Makes this phone more difficult to handle than e.g. Pixel 2 XL, which is almost 1cm wider.

keyboard goes over the edges. Can't type on it fast.

5.8" includes the curved part. What you can comfortably see is 5.6", probably 2.1:1 ratio. Ridiculous.

I was debating for days if the camera is worth all the frustration. Returned it... Now it's less than 500$ in Costco (Tmobile version) and I still don't want it. LG G7 is like a real phone, and this is more like a toy (with a better camera of course).

in regards to battery life, the LG has a 3000mah battery and the S9 has a 3500mah battery which is why there is a difference.

Ok, read carefully - it's 3000mah in S9.

Meh for some of us the battery life isn't really an issue.

I have an LG G6 and the G7 has a LONGER battery life with a BIGGER screen; so that's an improvement from their R&D department. Sure, it's not flagship-level performance for battery life, but it's plenty for the average user. I typically make it through my day just fine with my shorter lasting G6 vs the new G7's battery life.

I despise the S9/S9+ curved screens and like the alternative found in the LG series, even if it's not top-tier battery life.

LG devices couldn't hold their value. LG G5 is less than $100 and G6 is less than $200 now.

Definitely a good reason to buy when they are BOGO or heavily discounted; never pay full price for an LG phone!

Yeah, I've been burned more than one on LG phones. Samsung is getting there too with all the "deals" they offer.

Yeah right, post about a phone in a thread about carriers which cannot be used on either of them.
