How do these compare to the similar 60$ gaming chairs from Fry's?

I don't see how this can be comfortable compared to plush padding and cushioning

Confused Wait so these aren't a gimmick? A gaming chair implies that the user will be sitting hours on ending gaming. Is this style chair superior to other chairs in terms of comfort and ergonomics? Your opinion is appreciated.

Take this with a grain of salt, as it's jut my .02.... But I don't think these chairs are any "better" for gaming than another ergonomically focused chair with a high back/head rest, lumbar support, etc. I believe the padding is cushioned yet firm to support the body, but not overly plush like a large executive style chair.

That being said, I think the chair design, stemming from race car seats, is specifically designed to support an adult for sitting for hours on end. Remember, some of these companies, like DXRacer actually started making race car seats before adapting them for gaming chairs, so I think the thought process and design behind the chairs are solid.

However, as they've become more prevalent and "fad-ish" with the bright colors and EXTREME styling, I can see how people are turned off from it as nothing more than overpriced marketing. But when you're getting the chair for the same price or lower than some high back ergonomic/executive chairs, I say why not. And for a chair that usually goes for $240-$300, I still think this post was a good deal.

I especially like the feature that allows the chair to be reclined, as my bedroom tv where I play my PS4 is above eye level when sitting in a chair. So being able to recline to look up at it without having to force the chair to "rock" back is a bonus for me.

Here's pretty well put together article on the subject IMO: http://nymag.com/strategist/artic...hairs.html

I have a DXRacer chair myself, it was worth the price for two things: The King series model I own has a much taller back than any other chair I've ever owned - it's the first chair I've ever been able to lean back and rest my head against. Every other "high back" chair I've owned went to the top of my shoulders, if that.

The other thing is the seat isn't cheap foam on plywood. It's foam on an elastic weave hammock sorta thing. If you look under the seat cushion, it has large elastic straps. It's a similar principle to an aeron chair, just.. not quite as fancy.

There are some problems:
1. The lack of proper lumbar support. The pillow is a sick joke.
2. The side bolsters are shaped from the METAL FRAME. When have you seen that in a car seat? I mean sure, you'll see that in an actual racing bucket seat. Racing bucket seats aren't made for 8+ hours of comfort, they're made to hold you in place when you're taking turns at high speed on a race track. They probably should have made the bolsters out of something softer and changed how they were supported.
3. No replacement parts available
4. The mechanisms aren't special. They're pretty standard tilt/lift mechanisms.

Things I'd watch out for when buying a knockoff:
1. The seat - is it foam on cheap plywood?
2. How wide is the seat. Some of them are super narrow (like 12" between the bolsters!) - this also goes for dxracer and akracing chairs. (especially those)
3. The good chairs have the side bolsters upholstered separately from the seat. The elastic strapping holding the cushion up will stretch over time. If the seat and bolsters are upholstered as one piece, they will rip because the seat will sink. I've seen some of the more expensive chairs have this problem, so beware.
