Besides the $4 price difference, what makes the EasyStore preferable over the My Passport? Just formfactor? Which is considered the newer model?

How well do these work with a Raspberry Pi using the Pi's USB power? I've read that it's best to connect them to a powered hub. But if I use a hefty enough PS on the Pi, say a 2.5A regulated switching PS, and nothing else was connected to the Pi other than the portable HD and a TV (I'm looking to set up the Pi as a Kodi server, using some sort of Bluetooth remote to control it, connected to the Pi's built-in BT), would that work?
