Is the IQ camera worth getting over the regular indoor camera if I can get the reg for $30 less?

the seller linked by OP charges sales tax in NJ which killed the deal for me, coupon is good for any seller and I found another for 204.89 bring my total to 163.91 AC with free shipping and no tax, also brand new sealed in retail package, 1 left here:

FYI not sure if this is the same as the HD sale, but you may want to hold off til 6/7. See the Home Depot post about Father's Day sale ad. The nest indoor camera is $149.

It's not. The HD one is the first nest cam, which is 1080p. This is for the second iteration, which is 4k. There's some other differences too, but either way...they're two different models.

Thanks OP. I'm in for one.

Would this be overkill for a baby monitor? I figure when the baby outgrows it, I would use it as a security cam.

That's exactly what I'm going to do with it.

Two quick considerations for you...

--it's cloud based storage. there's been a few cases where video baby cams have been hacked, but none involving the nest. I felt secure enough with that, but you may want to read about it before opting for this to make sure you're comfortable with it.

--I've read you cannot get a real time audio feed on your phone if you close out of the app. Not sure if the IQ version changed that, but I bought a cheap audio monitor for our baby room anyway. I also plan to have a spare ipad for the bedroom on all night with the live video feed so you can quickly check in the kid in the middle of the night.

Wife and I also liked the idea that we can save video clips if the camera catches it. Of course, the normal caveat that you have to pay for the cloud storage still applies. Nest Aware is $50 for the year for 5 day storage, with each additional camera $30.

HI elquapo

The Nest IQ they claim has a "4K" sensor BUT only gives you a 1080p feed. So really should not be completely compared to a "4K"/8MP camera which captures the entire sensor's resolution. Also Nest compresses the video so the quality is often less than a on-prem / non-cloud dependent 1080P camera.

Hi Coffdrups,

When the baby outgrows it... depends on when that is.

Expect consumer cameras to have significant revisions of their product lines, so that in 3 years you will be considering upgrades.

I you plan to re-purpose the camera in 1 year, then imho it makes sense.

If 3 years, then no.
