Was looking for a non-generic, well rated hammock for my husband for fathers day to go camping with the Scouts.. These are $60-70 on Amazon, REI has the special edition one at 50% off with FS over $50.

Hammock:

I added these straps to bring my total to $50 for FS, still cheaper than just the bare hammock on amazon:

They also have the Sub7 ENO hammock for 34.95 too

You do realize the Chinese cookie cutter hammocks are a knockoff of ENO right? ENO has been around for a while and has built an amazing brand. Now is it worth 5x as much, that is up to you.

Comical. People started the craze..... There is so much I disagree with you on but for starters Bear Butts MADE its company because of the craze! They probably saw how much ENO was making and bam, lets make it better. Now I am not disagree with you on the material because ENO and all these chinese knockoffs work for an average body build so I have no interest in comparing them. Maybe if I was 300+ or 7 feet tall I would consider.

ENO is not a random company. Their products are made in USA and guaranteed for life. That is why they charge a premium.

ENO started in 1999, Bear Butts started in 2015....

Please get your facts straight before you just start thread crapping.

Yes they are good quality but I would say wait for one of the knockoffs to show up for <$10

Not a big fan of these Chinese cookie cutter hammocks (no difference in between these and the hundreds of others on Amazon). But the sub7 is neat.

It doesn't matter who started the "parachute" hammock craze, they're all garbage using cheap fabrics (310T fabric), they're short (usually 9-9.5'), use heavy material (steel carabiners, heavy rope). All these companies buy their hammocks from the same place in China and put their logos on them. Doesn't matter if it is Bear Butt (which I think they build theirs in the USA now), ENO, or any other random company on Amazon.
Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $20 for a parachute hammock. Of the name brands, I've owned ENO and Grand Trunk, and I've sold them both when I got a generic (Gon*ex) brand for $17 with straps (not ropes) and aluminum carabiners. I already had some Black Diamond carabiners I was using (because you're right, the steel biners are stupid heavy), but I'd recommend spending $10 on good aluminum ones (even though the cheap one came with some, the BD are nicer).

Actually, I just realized I do still have my Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter. It was a pretty good deal at $20 (though it only came with ropes and steel biners) and I wanted to have a second as a backup or in case my wife wants to go (which she never does, she doesn't like backpacking with a hammock).

Sure I have a Grand Trunk hammock as well, I still like it. Hell I even put whoopie slings and a ridgeline on it. It's more of my beater hammock. If I forget and leave it outside in the rain, oh well.

But then I have a much nicer 11' Robic XL 1.7 hammock with ridgeline, cinch buckles (for the ease of hanging), bug net and winter cover.

There's very little difference in the quality than any other cheapo hammock on Amazon.
There might be a little quality control. But from what I understand most companies order their hammocks from Alibaba (I think) and slap their label on it.
YMMV

I agree with everything but wanted to add my 2c. My ENO with bug net is amazing quality and even stops smallest no-see-ums. The knock off bug nets are more like fishing nets, I sent it back cause it couldn't stop anything smaller than a horse-fly. The hammock itself seemed fine though.
