Oh man... so tempted. Got in on the 27" omen deal at Walmart a couple weeks ago, and this would make a great center monitor. Anyone have any input on what might be coming soon on the monitor front? I imagine whatever the next "thing" is, those monitors will be much more expensive than $700.

IMHO 4k with better than 60hz refresh is going to be "next" on the monitor scene. However it is also my opinion that we are a ways out from having the hardware to really drive it, as such I pulled the trigger on this because I've been wanting a gsync monitor, and there will always be the new hotness just over the horizon. Just my .02.

Good choice.

Ultrawide 1440p is far superior and immersive at gaming, than 16:9 4K IMO.

VA panel - which some might balk at compared to IPS for the sake of color. And color/gamma shift will be present here (though not as bad as TN). At least you're not likely to have the huge backlight bleed problems that all other IPS 3440x1440/100hz panels have, and no IPS glow.

I probably would buy this now if I didn't already have one of the other g-sync enabled competitors. Native 21:9 support is becoming more mainstream, but make sure you check the web for a specific game's compatibility if you have your heart set on playing it ultrawide.

27in 4k 144hz hdr is out now, $1999. 35in 3440x1440 200hz hdr in Q4, probably around $1499.

Monitors and displays are at a strange point right now. I agree that in some ways the PC hardware is holding back making high refresh rate at 4k tough to justify. I hope for a reasonable priced 1440p with HDR by black Friday. But i'm not going to hold my breath.

Have had the 27" and 25" omen monitors and would seriously recommend a different brand, the quality control is terrible on the HP Omen monitors. Also anti consumer/false advertising with the 25" being advertised as 144hz but being physically unable to push that refresh rate without frame skipping, and no acknowledgement from HP. Buyer beware.

1080 ti sli would do just fine. 1180 or 1180 ti should do nicely as well.
