I hope the WH-1000XM2 I paid $75 more was worth it. I don't know what is the difference if they both are noise cancelling?

There were some complaints about the build quality of the earlier MDR-1000X -- with some units the headband was apparently cracking. Sony says this new model uses upgraded materials that help make the headphone sturdier. It's hard to tell how much of an improvement it actually is, but in the month or so I've been using it, I haven't had a problem and I do like the new, textured finish on the earcups.

I have the MDR-1000xm2's. Sony didn't fix the issue. They still crack at the hinge. I paid $350 for headphones that broke after 6 months, and Sony won't fix them under warranty because they claim it's physical damage. If you're gonna get Sony noise cancelling headphones don't invest much into them cause you're on the hook when they end up cracking due to well known design flaws.

I've had my first gen MDR-1000x for over 6 months. No real problems. Sleep with them too.
