I bought a few of these last time too. I also bought the lightify hub. I didn't try to link them to smartthings but the lightfy hub works very good, you can even cycles colors.

i had trouble linking to Smarthings at first too but there is actually direct setup and copadability already included just do custom pairing then select the Flex Strips under lighting.

I followed the advice someone gave last time. Bought two, out all six light strips into one controller, and bought a non-smart rgbw strip for the other. Both paired to SmartThings with a custom device handler.

You just plug them in, go to 'add things' in smartthings app and it finds them as a light strip.
