PSA: AT&T Increases Monthly Grandfathered Unlimited Data Plan by $5 to $45 - Coming July 2018

AT&T is again raising the price for grandfathered unlimited smartphone data plans by $5 per month beginning July, according to a support article on the carrier's website:

https://www.att.com/esupport/arti.../KM1147952

The last time a $5/month increase happened was in March 2017, raising grandfathered plans from $35 to $40, and followed an increase from $30 to $35 in February 2016. AT&T originally discontinued unlimited plans in 2010 and didn't introduce new unlimited plans again until 2017.

Are there still that many of us on the UDP?

I still have the grandfathered unlimited plan and I still get throttled if I got above 25gb in a billing cycle.

If they allowed true unlimited (no throttling) I wouldn't mind the rate hike but I would take advantage of it more by streaming more on the road in HD rather than 480p.

I'm fed up with att and plan on switching to t-mobile as soon as the next decent deal on plan/phone pops up.

I paid AT&T $85 for way too long for their unlimited plan, they gradually increased from $65 to $85 by $5.
I called and said I'll stay if you give me a new phone because I don't mind your service but I can't keep paying $85. They said we have a great deal for you (canned customer service answer on the phone) we can send you a crappy $100 tablet for free if I sign up for $10 tablet plan.

I said BYE and I never looked back.

Can you be bad credit if you don't pay the termination fee when you cancel the service and you are in contract?

I'm confused. We have the unlimited plus plan.. why are people still holding onto a plan you can't tether from? We tether ALL day in the car on our UPP..

I tried switching to that plan when it launched and was told I had to sign a contract for it. No thanks.

I have this plan. There's more to the original grandfathered in plan than data. The new plans don't have rollover for 12 months, only 30 days, among other things. I have been considering switching to T-mobile, this won't help them keep me, especially the way the data sucks so bad lately, barely connecting all over town. They treat you really well when you're with them for so many years though, and I'd be giving that up.

Bc as far as I'm concerned my original unlimited grandfather plan includes tethering but att won't allow me to use it.

Data is data. Att shouldn't be able to say how what when where I can or can't use it.

Just use a phone that lets you tether without "officially" tethering. I did this forever on their old unlimited data plan on jailbroken iOS and only got a warning or two, never stopped or reduced my usage, and they never took action against. Might help that I've always had a minimum of 5 lines, but still seems like a logical solution if you don't wanna jump on ther unlimited plus plan.

FWIW I have the unlimited plus and thy knocked $10/month off for being a "loyal" customer. Can't hurt to ask if you've been around a while.
