Android Phone not recognizing files on SD

So my current SD was starting to be unresponsive. I had a 64gb card, I backed it up onto my computer. I then copied those files onto a new 128gb card. I put the card into my phone and it doesn't recognize any of the files. It sees the SD, and I can go into those folders but when I go to gallery there is nothing, when I go to music, there is nothing.

What I ended up having to do was format the 128gb card again to wipe it clean, put it into my phone, connect the phone to the computer to then transfer the file this way. The phone recognizes my files but it's PAINFULLY slow. I've been trying to transfer pictures this way for the past 2 days and it's beyond ridiculous.

Does anyone know why I need to do it this way for my phone to recognize the file?

On my old phone, I was able to go into app setting and clear media storage data cache, but this phone and this version of Android doesn't seem to have that option anymore. I'm on Android 7.1.1.

I was really hoping to just copy the files onto the SD via computer and plop it into my phone and having it work, that would've saved me a ton of headache and time.

What phone and card? Where did you buy the card? What are you using for a card reader?

Phone: Axon 7
Card: 128gb Samsung Evo
Bought from Samsung.com

I just put the card into my laptop's slot, it's an HP. And open the folder.

Try connecting the phone to a USB 3 port and mounting it and dumping files that way. The internal card reader could be the slow component.

I've switched to try all of my usb ports, they were all slow.

I finally finished transferring pictures on Friday but I don't think I'd like to go thru that again.

What I'd like to know is why Android is so odd with recognizing files. I this same issue on another phone when my music files were gone, but it wasn't truly gone. It was still on the card, the phone just stopped recognizing the folder. I had to rename the folder and the phone would then recognize it. From googling around, I think it happens often but no one seems to know why.
