UNLOCKING POLICY - METROPCS

Source:

https://www.metropcs.com/content/...olicy.html

Unlocking a phone enables you to use your phone on a compatible carrier's network.

Phone Requirements

The phone must be a MetroPCS Phone.

Note:

Unlocked phones can only use networks of the same type. For example, an unlocked GSM-only phone will only work with another carrier's compatible GSM network. It will not work with another carrier's CDMA network.

Unlocking your phone does not guarantee that the phone will fully work with all of a competing carrier's services and features.

Service Requirements

Your handset must have had active service for a minimum of one hundred eighty (180) consecutive days from the individual phone's activation date.

Note: For warranty exchange handsets, the original phone's activation date counts as the beginning of the one hundred eighty (180) days, not the activation date of the warranty exchange handset.

Thanks for sharing.

I may want to get an iPhone SE simply as a side device without data, and do not care that the phone is locked to a carrier. Would the cheapest way to get the iPhone to open an account at a provider like FreedomPop, switch over to MetroPCS immediately, pay $50 for one month of service, then cancel?

I haven't looked at smartphone deals in a while because I'm happy with my current device, so I am severely outdated.

Thank you,
Tofu Vic

Since I have MetroPCS already I'll port in a number, Pay for the first month of service & taxes then use it for the first month & switch the phone to one of my other Metro lines for the remainder of the six months then have it unlocked.

I hope that you can drop down to the $30 plan right away again like the last deal. I don't actually mind keeping service for 6 months, just don't want to pay $50 a month.

Also, does anyone know if porting in from Mint is a problem? I know they use the T-Mobile towers.

"Excludes phone numbers currently active on the T-Mobile network or active on MetroPCS in past 90 days." Thank you seal the deal, I was wondering why T-Mobile was excluded.

Did the rules change? It used to be 3 months from the first date of activation on Android phones. You don't even have to keep it active or anything.

I'm looking for my next switch since my free 1 year Sprint will end in one or two months. Sprint voice quality and reliability sucks by the way. I did like their unlimited data and hotspot option from iPhone though, when it worked.

Hp79 is correct. I found this under Terms and Conditions, Phone Unlock Policy on their website: "When can I request the unlock code for my phone?
You can request the unlock code after 90 consecutive (continuous) days of phone service with MetroPCS."

At the end of the last deal it was suppose to change 6 months.
