So do I need to replace an existing switch or can I just stick this anywhere in a home as long as it's used with a smart bulb?

From your question, I guess you don't need this switch.

To answer your question, you don't need smart bulb as the switch is smart in this case. All you need to do is replace any 1-way switch with switch. Set it up with wemo app, you can then control it from anywhere or schedule it for specific time interval. Remember, it won't work as dimmer or as part of 3-way switch.

Why buy 4 smart bulbs at $25 a peice when you can buy this and just control normal bulbs. If you are always going to turn them on and off together this product makes more sense money-wise. I use it for master bathroom vanity as well as other similar places.

I have nine WeMo devices (one outlet, the rest are switches). They are a pain to initially get added (it times out when trying to hop on my WiFi and says the password isn't correct). But once I get it / them added, they work pretty well. Works well with Echo and Google Home (the latter took a bit more time as I had to go through IFTTT, but I think there is direct integration now if I understand correctly).
