Any thoughts on this? I don't know much about computers, but my girl needs a laptop.

Amazon has a similarly specd laptop, Acer aspire e15
for $599 and I've seen it on sale for $569 before. I'd probably go with the Acer for the price difference.

It's nothing similar to that gaming laptop. This is aluminum top below 4 pounds 15 inch ultrabook.

Man so tempted. Exact specs I'm looking for. Only thing holding me back is possibly waiting for the new chips with better protection/performance for Spectre and Meltdown. Thoughts?

I agree with you, but from the spec side their identical, and the Acer is going to have better battery life too. also it's not a gaming laptop.

That Acer is a full 1.5 lbs heavier (3.7 vs 5.2) and almost 0.5" thicker (0.7" vs 1.19").

I know, but like I said I'd go with the Acer for the price difference, he asked for thoughts and that's mine. I personally don't think that the size difference is worth the extra money and the smaller battery. That's what I think, but you are entitled to your opinion too, you obviously think it's well worth the money.

Panel lottery?
Fan noise when just browsing / video playback?
Microcenter return policy if I don't like the back light bleed / fan noise?

I never said it was or wasn't worth the money. I was just pointing out that there are significant differences in the design that would drive the cost up to that $650 vs $569. To some people, the less weight and more slim form factor might be worth the extra $91.
