Ahhh, be at me to it! Just got back from Fry's. Saw this deal on the CPU board and bought it! Didn't see it in any promo code email, however. In addition, the store did have a problem applying any of this week's coupon promo codes, so they had to override the price.

Possibly a Thursday deal?

Well I would say you better return it and place a new order. There is no specific mention for this. you have to make the payment and then pick up at fry's. Just use your today's "save on apple products" promocode. It should work.

No, no. I don't need to return it. I did get the $79 price, but they couldnt get any promo code to work.

I wonder if it will work with a gaming laptop that takes desktop processors?

No, not really. It would be 10-15% faster all things considered, but that's not really worth it imo.

I own 6 i5-3570K, 7 i5-3570, 2 i3-8100 and the answer is no.
If you overclock 3570K they come out about the same.
i5-3570K is pretty bad though without overclocking. i5-3570 beats them easily.
i3-8100 will beat even the overclocked i5-3570K with a good set of DDR4 memory though and uses less electricity but you won't see it in your monthly bill.
