Seems like a better idea to get the 8tb WD deal from Best Buy which is frequently sub $150 and shuck. Just a thought.

Where in the world are you getting an 8TB WD Red drive on BestBuy for 150??? Link now please so I can get 4 of them.

Also, good deal for the 4TB at $109 wish they let me buy 4.

I think he means the Easystore external drive. Thus the shucking...

Figured that was the case. I've had an alert for 4TB NAS drives for like 2 weeks now. Need to upgrade my 2TB Reds to 4s or something bigger depending on the price I can get.

What's the chance the drive will be a Red WD tho and not a Blue WD? Confused

Most people who have shucked them either had a Red or White drive.

When did they change that? It used to be Red and White in the Easystore 8GB.

Meant 50/50 on getting a red drive.

the caveat there is that you risk voiding the wty

and only a percentage will have a WD Red inside. the White may in fact be better (Enterprise drive vs consumer NAS in some cases)

AFAIK there's no 8TB Blue, only 6TB. And the white labels I believe are basically Reds with a 3.3v pin that you can bypass. There's also a chance for 128MB vs 256MB cache, but most people won't notice a difference.

I've never posted, but thought i'd add..I just bought 2 of the 8 TB Easystores from Best Buy a few weeks back (i think they were 159 a piece pre tax). FWIW, they both had Red Drives with 256mb cache. I have 2 more in the mail from a more recent BestBuy ebay deal...those were sub 160 each including tax but not sure what's inside

This deal has been every couple of my months. The reds/whites are inside WD portables and you just take them apart to get the drives.
