Oh my gosh. This regularly costs more than $50!? It's pretty much just a USB C hub with HDMI.

Buy the open box, remove the core components and install it on a 3rd party dock cover.

I use Best Buy's Insignia dock too. It's one of the few docks that doesn't have the bricking problems. I haven't had any issues with the original dock that came with mine though, I put a glass screen protector on my switch as soon as I got it.

Question: is there any alternative? I hate sliding my Switch in and out of that dock.

Seeing lots of sales on switch accessories and rumors of an updated console. I would bite on this deal, but wondering if the dock will be redesigned as well.

yes, but there are many reports of third party docks- even from reputable brands- bricking switches due to Nintendo's poor USB c implementation

This isn't really an alternative, but do you have a screen protector on your switch? I used to hate sliding it in and out of the dock, but once I put a tempered glass screen protector on it, it makes it 100 times better and my switch is still in perfect condition

To be fair it does come with an AC adapter.

Won't it scratch up the tempered glass screen protector?
It depends on the hardness of the glass vs the hardness of where it catches in the dock.

No, the tempered glass is much stronger than the Switch's plastic screen. (Nintendo likely made the Switch's screen plastic so that it would be less likely to break from ordinary drops by children.)

Its a glass protector that you apply on screen so it can take a beating instead of the screen directly.
Why would you be worried about scratching the glass protector.

Also you are suppose to slide it in, on push it hard. And even if you do it does not have sharp corner and the orientation required to slid it in will not even allow you to scratch that screen
