Meh, after using the last model I think it's still a bit overpriced, but some people love it :-)

This is the "last" model since the Hero 6 is the current. Either way, it has been selling for 180-200 during deals, so I would hold off unless you really need it now.

$250 is the regular price and it does seem better than the GoPro 4 series if you need to record audio and are not diving too deep. But, then again if you are diving then audio is not needed anyway.

I dove with my YI 4K last year and it was beautiful, but it was really useless around the pool, streams, lakes, etc. You cannot hear anything in those cases. I was also shooting with the Hero 4 and it had the same issues, but maybe not as bad as the GoPro cases are a bit tigher.

The sams club bundle is way better, includes the dual battery charger vs this stupid case and tripod. Who uses a tripod for a gopro?

'Shorty' opens up to function as a telescoping mini-pole. Lightweight and quite useful for handheld. 'Casey' is well made, nice to have. An extra thumbscew is included.

Costco.com's original ad featured the dual charger with extra battery although it was a misprint. I agree, dual charger with discrete USB C-PD fast charging for each channel is an essential accessory.

Take advantage of Plus free for 30 days and you get dual charger + extra battery for $40 along with 20% OFF most other accessories priority tech support

The best GoPro deal to date was the gopro, com's May 25 sale:
- 5 Black for 199 with extra battery and free sh ( $240 with dual charger, three batteries total )

- 6 Black for 319 with extra battery and free sh ( for a lucky few like myself who ordered 5 Black early in the morning ).

IMO, current Costco bundle is a good deal for the active person that has a use for wide angle GoPro hero. Factor in essential dual charger direct from GoPro, $240 + 40 + possibly 5 sh [ 'Shorty' + 'Casey' + 3 batteries ]

5 or 6? Good question. Advantages to each. Forget the 4k on the 6 as you will be unlikely to use 4k due to its limitations. Better stabilization, IQ, wireless on 6 for sure albeit with slower boot. UI, data transfer issues on both. Chunk of change for either which can only be justified for niche applications.

Updating the firmware is essential. Download to a micro SD on a computer then load the card in Hero. Easy enough, don't waste your time trying to update via the phone app which imo is not ready for prime time. Uploading video on the go requires the camera be on charge. External ac charger or battery pack required. Ease of use and integration we've come to expect with cell video is not yet part of the GoPro experience.

Dual charger with the extra battery is $50. + Tax. You can buy a case and a tripod and a whole lot of accessories for $10-12 on amazon.i bought a 50 pc set with all kinds of mounts, carrying case and tripod, selfie stick from amazon for $8. Search slickdeals for it. So Sam's club is the best deal, unless you can replicate the Father's day deal from gopro. But lots of people reported they cancelled the coupon charged the full amount and they had to take it up with paypal to refund the difference. That's gopro for you!

@aviseqdas: Dual charger is $40 per my post when you sign up for Plus which has a free 30 day trial.

'Shorty' is a useful high quality telescoping mini pole as well as a tripod. 'Casey' is a thoughtfully designed modular compartment case. The quality of the aftermarket parts you mention is in no way up to par of these gopro oem items. Aftermarket charger bay being a prime example of krap you don't want.

It's all in how one intends to use GoPro. Adding the oem dual charger from gopro.com with the Plus discount to the costco bundle yields the best value imo. Most will appreciate and utilize casey and shorty after hands on as opposed to head strap.

gopro.com price before before 20 OFF for Plus members:

'Shorty' mini pole tripod $40
'Casey' 50
head strap 20 ( frequently less )

Actually I fly economy and don't carry the gopro in the big case like the one from coscto. its an action should be able to take up the beating thrown in the backpack inside a lint sack but to each on his own. I like my head strap and chest strap since I can get my hands free for whatever activity I am doing. Honestly I don't have a hand free while going on river rafting, skating or even when I am riding a bike on a mountain.
