Norton & AVG Ultimate Rebates purchased at Frys.com - you need to check status on these as they are marking some invalid/no UPC/not received

8,374 2,249 June 19, 2018 at 12:01 PM
2 of the AVG Ultimates marked invalid due to UPCs or hadn't received paperwork.

AVG Ultimate 2018, 2 Years Missing UPC
Invalid Original UPC or UPC or License Number
AVG Ultimate 2018, 2 Years Missing: License Number

Or they are claiming they hadn't received the mail-in portion yet.

I had to check on 3 Norton rebates that seemed to be taking longer than usual to come in the mail.

I did a chat and gave them 3 tracking numbers that stated they were denied due to missing UPC.

Chat rep put me on hold and fixed the status for me on all three. They had the UPC so not sure why they marked them invalid because of missing the UPC.

Also I see one is denied with reason being:

Missing Email Confirmation &/or Original UPC or Invalid UPC number
Household limit exceeded

According to their website the allowed total of rebates per year is 250.00.

I keep good records and it's not like I've even done that many rebates so far this year but I've only done 180.00 and they marked this as invalid rebate for 50.00 which would put me at 230.00 for the calendar year. I'll have to call on that one also.

Edited to add: After checking on 4 of the rebates, all were approved. I have no idea why they are randomly marking them as invalid for whatever reason when they aren't. Please check your status.

I'm starting to lose faith in rebates. Between all these being declined and then what's going on with Newegg, I hesitate to do rebates anymore.

Mine was the download version and they rejected it also saying missing UPC. I called and said there's no UPC since it is the download version, I included all the other requested stuff. Lady insisted I had to send in a UPC. I asked how since it is the download version. She checked all the paperwork and still sounded like she didn't want to approve it, but she finally did. I truly believe they randomly do stuff like that hoping the people won't call and then they can keep some of their money.

Mine were all box versions. On one of my rebates, the rep wanted me to send in the copy of the email to them. I said "What email?". I told them this was the box version and not a download version and email wasn't required and told him I've submitted Norton rebates in the past and have never submitted an email on box version. Then after a big pause, the rep said he understands my concerns and in this case, he'll go ahead and approve it. Well duh. lol

Maybe they just got some new employees and didn't train them hardly at all.

This rebate center (Parago) has been doing this type of stuff for years, not just with Norton rebates.

If you are talking about the $50 rebate for:
Norton Security Premium (10 Devices) + Norton Utilities + Norton Computer Tune Up Bundle (21383342)

I believe that this one actually had an improper UPC in the registration system which was cause for the denial. I wrote e-mails to Frys and Blackhawk (Parago) about this when I was denied last month. It sat in denial status until I chatted back in this week and this time they approved it. The reps would not approve it last month and kept saying the item I purchased was not part of the Promo.

There were 2 SKUs for the box version on Frys with the same rebate form. One had a different model #. I am guessing that the other one had old install media and this one had the more current version of Norton Security Premium, but the new UPC wasn't added until recently.

Now on AVG Ultimate I'm being denied and one they claim they didn't receive the paperwork. What the heck it going on with Frys rebate company? This is crazy.

AVG Ultimate that came with 30.00 and 10.00 update rebate. They received the 10.00 rebate 6-15 and already denied it due to the UPC.

On the 30.00 portion of the rebate, they claim they hadn't received. This is BS and an attempt to not pay or prolong payment. I'm so tired of having to babysit rebates these days when in the past, I never had to.

These exact same messages were on another set of tracking numbers for the same software that a family member sent in. 30.00 paperwork never received and 10.00 rebate marked invalid due to UPC.

Something is going on here and it doesn't sound right. Are they hoping people don't call in and they don't have to pay out? If rebate company notices a lot of that item rebates are getting denied because the UPC doesn't match, wouldn't that send off a red flag that maybe they need to find out what's going on with the UPC instead of lazily marking them invalid?

I just spent about 45 minutes doing a chat with them.

They say they never received the 30.00 rebate but I think they have as there is another person's same rebate that company says they didn't receive also. So I find that funny. They wanted me to mail it back in but I asked if I could email it to speed things up. So I just did that.

As far as the 10.00 rebate, they wanted a license # and UPC.

I told rep to hold on and let me look more closely at the rebate form because I didn't remember anything about a license.

This is exactly what it states on my rebate registration form as far as requirements:

AVG Ultimate 2018, 2 Years Original or Copy of UPC
AVG Ultimate 2018, 2 Years Proof of Previous Ownership
AVG Ultimate 2018, 2 Years Store Receipt

First, there is an error in the requirements....the 2nd requirement doesn't make sense and I had called the rebate company before submitting my info. Rebate company said that just means to send in a copy of any previous anti-virus software cd or manual. It confused me when they put AVG Ultimate 2018, 2 Years in front of the requirement.

I told the rep that I included a copy of the UPC from AVG, copy of CD of previous software and I included the AVG invoice so please explain to me what exactly more you need.

This was rep's response:

Please be aware that as per the guidelines of the promotion, in order to be eligible the UPC barcode is required. However, since you did not receive one, as a valued AVG customer that you are, I will process your rebate.

I told her that the box only had 1 UPC and I had to use that for the 30.00 rebate. I asked her if the box had 2 originals UPCs. lol I told her I sent in a copy of the UPC so not sure what she is needing.

Good grief.

Just called on the other AVG rebate.

Rep refused to approve the 10.00 rebate on that one stating a license is required. I asked him to point it out on the rebate form where it states that so he sent my rebate to resolutions and he said I should expect to hear from then in 7-10 days. What the hell!!!

I sent him these requirements on the rebate form;

AVG Ultimate 2018, 2 Years Original or Copy of UPC
AVG Ultimate 2018, 2 Years Proof of Previous Ownership
AVG Ultimate 2018, 2 Years Store Receipt

No flipping mention of a license and he couldnt' find it either.

He could not point that part out in rebate where it said that was required. Also gave me a hard time about original UPC. He said I need the original.

The flipping software box only has ONE UPC idiot. How do I attach original UPC to both rebates?

Why is my rebate being held up for a license when NO WHERE on rebate for it states it is required? This is pissing me off. It's like they are looking for crazy excuses to hold up paying these rebates. Unbelievable.

WTF.

A few years back, they denied a number of rebates of mine including AVG and Webroot, among others. They are notorious for this.

This is not the Fry's rebate company. It's Parago/Blackhawk, and they have nothing to do with Fry's. They are representing the software manufacturers (AVG, Norton, McAfee, Acronis, etc.)

Yes, I understand that. I meant Parago handles Frys certain rebates. Parago absolutely sucks. Just as I was bragging about never not being paid for a rebate, I get all these issues with being denied. They are making requirements now that aren't even listed on the rebate form and denying rebates for UPCs they say they didn't get or are wrong, etc. ....making up crap. This worries me as far as any trust I used to have for this company.

Did you send them all the required documents and they still denied you? Did you put up a stink or just accept it? Did you call Frys?

I emailed 30.00 portion yesterday. This morning they received it and marked invalid due to household limit reached. lol This is only one I ordered to my address this year.

They saw I had a 10.00 rebate for this item and counted that as my 1 limit for the year so they marked the 30.00 as invalid due to I had the 10.00 rebate. Unbelievable.

I've been using Norton products for over 20 years. One or two times prior to this year I've encountered a rebate issue and they were always resolved over the phone with little effort.

Well, I just ran into another rebate problem where the fulfillment center is claiming my UPC is invalid. The product I purchased was Norton Security Premium 10 Devices 3 in 1 Bundle. I cut out the UPC code directly from the box that Fry's shipped to me.

When I tried to web chat with the fulfillment center, my chat sessions were never responded to. I tried twice.

Then I tried calling the 800 number of the fulfillment center. The automated system says my tracking number is invalid.

I'm not sure what's going on but it seems the fulfillment company has a lot of issues.

I seem to remember this from 15+ years back... doesn't Fry's have to reimburse the rebate themselves if the fulfillment company fails to properly process the rebate submission?
