Don't you mean this or Sony UBP-x700? X800 will never get Dolby Vision. Good question though!

I meant x800 since that is what I am considering. I've heard Dolby vision does not have much adoption.

Sorry I have to disagree. Netflix and Apple, for example, are offering most of their offerings in 4K DV. I've seen DV and I just want more. Unless you don't have a 4K TV with DV, I guess you can opt for the x800. I'm debating on this Lg or the x700 or stay digital streaming only.

Truth is if you must buy now then it's either DV or HDR10. But I have the impression that soon, 4k BR players will have both DV and HDR10. For 4k TV now it's either Sony or Samsung. Remind me of the VHS vs betamax days.!!!

Just to be clear, this player has hdr10 as well as Dolby Vision. You don't have to choose between formats, if DV is available on the source material it will automatically select that as it is the superior format.

Also, not entirely sure what you mean about Samsung or Sony. LG arguably makes the best display available right now, and Panasonic, Vizio, and TCL are major players in the market if you aren't necessarily looking for the cream of the crop.

It certainly has lower adoption, but that's just because hdr10 is the basic standard and even it is just now starting to be widely available. DV will likely be only on serious titles for now, and on basically any Netflix title with hdr. I believe Amazon hdr titles often have DV as well. I see it fairly often, but certainly nowhere near the majority of the content I watch. Netflix is still the biggest source of DV content.

More and more 4k discs are coming out with dolby vision including pacific rim uprising, annihilation, braveheart, gladiator, saving private Ryan, black panther, and most of the recent Disney's. IMHO if your TV can display in DV, get the player that can do DV. It is a step up in color and makes the picture pop! I think most reviewers concur. My set up is an oppo 203 to lg e6p...

Word to the wise

I had this player and it exhibited a terrible noise with a disc playing
I returned it

You can read others that had the same issue in the Best buy reviews
