If I had not gone for the $102 monoprice via ebay front page deal yesterday, I would have instead picked this one instead (as there is no real-world difference between the two for an "average" user). Great price point and a better brand than Inland and Patriot.

Thanks for sharing.

Sorry I don't know much about the drives. Isn't this one cheaper?

Yes, that what I said -- I would have bought this if I had not already bought the one I did yesterday.

Ah ok. Thanks. Understood.
I have an expiring $10 gc. Need to replace an HDD connected to a rpi 3 running a samba. I'm seeing occasional stuttering. Not sure if this will be a good fit.

And I, unfortunately, am not qualified to advise you as I don't have the faintest what "rpi 3 running a samba" even means!

😂 that's okay.
I have a raspberry pi3 running a samba server and pled media server with my video library on the HDD. I play video on my tv using my nexus player running kodi on my home network. Or occasionally plex.

If its a sata interface and ur using a platter drive today. This sure wont hurt. Especially if ur pi is sata 3. But will still improve greatly on any sata interface

If it doesn't than something else is bottlenecking you, is ur network gigabit and the pi have a nic wired to ur LAN? Or wifi?

What type of streams, 1080p? 4k?

I have an nvidia shield and one of these drives (960gb) and not a single blip streaming 4k HDR with dolby 7ch dolby atoms surround from the ssd. Just

The pi3 only has usb. Not even 3.0. The HDD is connected using an external drive enclosure. I believe it has a SATA to usb 3.0 converter.

The pi3 is connected hardwired to my router. I have gigabit lan ports on my router.

I'm having a feeling it's the nexus player that is underpowered for this purpose. It is on WiFi. But just 2 feet from a wired AP. I should probably get a usb to Ethernet hub for the nexus player to check if hard wiring it will help.

I forget to mention. The streams are 1080p not 4K. Nexus player can't handle 4K neither is my tv. But some of the rips are BR rips.
OS: after sabotaging the Death Star I hope you don't plan to put a flaw in my media server but instead help me find it !! 😬

Ill be honest, I wouldn't waste too much time, or money/effort on that, I'd scrap the nexus and get a shield tv if you can

i have come across nothing even remotely close, especially for the price, that can handle more or less any audio and video The heart desires with ZERO issues with anything- formats, containers, stuttering. or otherwise.

You will be good for a while if you get one now.

I have an older synology 1813+ NAS that houses my media collection (you can just use your ssd or hard drive enclosure)

- shield tv (16gb model no need for the 500gb unless u want to store locally, otherwise connect your media drive with usb3)
- gig LAN switch connected to the NAS and Shield
(I bonded 4 LAN ports on the nas for 4gig but it was fine/same on single 1gig LAN connection)
- sony 75" 4K tv hdmi connected to the shield
- harmony remote/app w/ hub controls the shield via bluetooth (500gb shield has IR control if you must use IR)

- i use free VLC player mostly on the shield, but plex and kodi sometimes as well. I have plex running on the NAS but honestly more for the eye candy and from previous use.

I have apple tv 4k & roku ultimate have collected dust ever since i got Shield. Prob just sell them and get more shields Smilie
