Paid $80 for this a month ago and it's been a good buy. My son really likes it...he's done well with it in baseball this summer.

Do you think it'd be too heavy for a 7 year old?

My son is 7 and it just barely works for him. It's probably a tad too heavy but it's taught him to use his legs in his swing. He's been the best batter on his team so I'm not worried about it. Lots of the other kids use really lightweight bats, which are easy for them to swing, but they are all hands. There just aren't many options in the 27 inch range...this is the next best thing for that 7-8 age range.

I was looking at this in 27 inch but this one is almost half the price.

I will go with s450(-11)
7 year old is usually not strong enough to handle normal bats (compare to their height)

Good bat with nice weight distribution. This was a Dick's exclusive and retail price was $150. Nice find at under $60.

USA bats are basically bbcor bats for youth. They are dead compared to USSSA 1.15 bats. A birch wood bat has a higher coefficient of restitution.

Our son plays HS and summer travel ball in multiple states. We've gone though all types of bats. As the years pass, the bats get harder through the sweet spot for safety. It's very easy to recognize the illegal rolled/shaved composites. They all have that hollow reverb sound.

The old, orange Easton XL1 drop 5 composite was the closest to illegal you could get without shaving or rolling. Those were great bats for the 11-14 year old players.

The 8-10 year range was popular with drop 10 bats. The players who adopted to drop 8 the soonest hit the ball much further. Sometimes going too light eliminates momentum.

Once all youth leagues adopt the USA standard, I am betting people start looking into shaving/rolling more. The smallest players will have the toughest time getting hits to the outfield.

We've already seen more ball action in all wood bat tournaments. The sound is amazing, and there is actually some pop. Some food for thought.
