The i7-8750H is a 6 core, 12 thread CPU from the current generation. The i5-7300 is a 4 core, 4 thread CPU. i7-8750H can clock higher on the single and dual core loads than the i5. Yes, it'll make a big difference in the games you play that love multiple cores and threads. In a sense, it's more future proof.

The new i5s with H suffix are actually faster then the i7-7700HQ

The screen is only 60Hz and the SSD will very quickly fill up with games of you have a decently-sized library from Steam or elsewhere, but that should be replaceable. 8GB RAM seems good enough for most games. Overall the deal looks great. Definitely worth imo unless the 60Hz screen bothers you.

Does anyone a little more tech savvy wanna give me a rundown on how the i7-8750H would compare to something like the i5-7300HQ?

I heard the IPS panel can be overclocked to 120 Hz.

8750 is 6-core 12-thread while the older i7 is a 4-core 8-thread cpu. Better multitasking and better in programs that can take advantage of the extra cores/threads.

these new Intel laptops are a lot cheaper than last gen.

You couldn't even get a 1060 for this price with the 7700hq
