Hello, I hope you are doing well.

Costco.com [costco.com] has Ring Alarm Wireless 10-piece Security Kit for $239.99 with free shipping for Costco Wholesale members. (When this thread was initially posted, it was for a pre-order for shipping on 07/13/2018.)

Alternatively, select Costco Wholesale stores also have this product in stock as of 07/11/2018 for the same price. It is recommended you call to ask for availability prior to visiting the store. (store locator [costco.com])

The kit includes:
  • Base Station
  • Keypad
  • Range Extender
  • Motion Detector
  • 6 Contact Sensors
Price Research and Other Kits
  • BestBuy.com [bestbuy.com] has a $299.99 package that consists of 2x keypads; 2x motion detectors; 3x contact sensors; base station; extender; and solar security sign. (I compared the BestBuy.com to Costco deal here.)
    • As of 07/04/2018, the solar security sign may no longer be available.
  • HomeDepot.com [homedepot.com] has a 9-piece kit for $249; for $9.01 less at Costco, you'll get 1 additional sensor.
  • BestBuy.com [bestbuy.com] has a 6-piece kit for $199.99 (the 6th piece is a solar security sign); for $40 more at Costco, you'll get 5 additional sensors, but you won't get the solar security sign.
  • Ring.com [ring.com] has a 5-piece kit for $199.99; for $40 more at Costco, you'll get 5 additional sensors.
Add-ons and Accessories
Notes
  • 24/7 professional monitoring for $10 per month or $100 per year (sold separately)
    • Author's note: This is significantly less expensive than other monitoring services, and that's the biggest benefit of this system. For a consolidated look at multiple monitoring services, see my post below.
  • No contracts and no cancellation fees
  • No professional installation required
  • Works with Ring Video Doorbells and Cameras
  • Author's note: Some regions, counties, and cities require registering for a permit to have home alarm security systems. Please check with your local government agency.
Enjoy!

I did a lot of research and went with Abode finally. Reasons:
1) professional monitoring is optional
2) cellular uplink available
3) mobile notifications without subscription option - biggest reason
4) cheaper sensors than nest
5) home automation compatible - not tied with only abode products. Nest, google home, Alexa and bunch of lighting and smart lock options!!

Absolutely interested and thanks - keep us posted. I can't stand the idea of paying a sub fee for the video (I believe Nest has one - maybe they all do).

Thank you. I am interested in your findings. Currently I'm leaning to ring since we have the ring doorbell, and was looking at ring wireless outdoor spotlight cam.

Good deal, 5x sensors are $100 so you are kind of saving $50 here, though I really need only 4x, would rather have one extra motion sensor instead of two door sensors

If you have windows on the ground level, you can use the contact sensors on the windows. I know that seems obvious, but someone I was talking to last night told me, "Why do I need 6 sensors? I don't have 6 doors going into my house!"

Good deal especially for those who are already with the ring system. I already have one doorbell and one floodnight and I m paying $5 per month for those two. With extra $5 I can get professional monitoring system.

Great price, and obviously the Costco return policy is clutch.

Closest comparisons for packages are at Home Depot for 4 contact sensors instead of 6 with the Costco package, and it's $250 for the HD package.

Abode is the most expensive of all.

Simplisafe is in the middle and it is a little more refined than ring (nicer looking and better quality sensors)

Ring is the cheapest by far and its the best deal of all.

I have ring alarm and simplisafe.

I have been heavily researching a do-it-yourself (DIY) home security system and plan to subscribe to a monthly or yearly plan. I can provide findings and updates in this thread if people are interested.

Systems I am considering are:
  • Ring [ring.com]. 2 monitoring plans [ring.com]:
    • $30 per year or $3 per month: Protect Basic (Per Camera)
      • Video Recording: Store all of your videos to your Ring account for up to 60 days.
      • Video Review: If you miss an alert, you can review your videos at anytime.
      • Video Sharing: Share your videos with friends, family or local law enforcement.
    • $100 per year or $10 per month: Protect Plus (Per Home)
      • Unlimited Cameras: Covers unlimited Ring Cameras at your home.
      • Exclusive Discounts: All Protect Plus members get 10% off purchases at Ring.com.
      • Extended Warranty: Enjoy our warranty protection for the life of your Protect Plus Plan.
      • 24/7 Professional Monitoring: Dispatch emergency services whenever you need assistance.
      • Video Recording
      • Video Review
      • Video Sharing
  • SimpliSafe
  • Nest Secure
  • Abode
