Don't know much about these TCL TV's but it seems like everyone is getting them. Is this a good deal?

I bought this model for my parents last Christmas for $300 from Costco. They have been very happy with it. I didn't have any direct experience with TCL either except for seeing them on the shelf at Costco. As I looked at reviews, most indicated that the TCL Roku models represented very good value. Now that they are reduced further, I think it is a great deal. 4K with HDR for $250 is about as good as it will get. I know the 2018 models were supposed to be a further improvement with similar MSRPs as the 2017 models, but $250 is below MSRP. It has only been a few months but we've been impressed. The Roku interface is nice as well and eliminates one more box from the living room.

It's about the same price from Best Buy on Ebay, $280 w/ 10% Bucks, if you qualify. If you want this TV I'd wait for a 15 or 20% Ebay coupon later this week, good chance we'll see one before the end of the fiscal quarter.

If there's a 20% coupon I'm buying this, Vizio E43-F1, which is a better TV, it was just reviewed on rtings. Mainly better motion, and contrast is better too.

Got mine a couple of weeks ago and overall pretty happy with it primarily as a computer monitor. Able to set the backlight to zero for non-blinding whites when needed without any sort of flickering. The contrast is much improved of the 42" Seiki 4K it's replacing. The Seiki I used to ALWAYS have to adjust brightness and backlight for whatever I was looking at. Darks were too dark and lights were too light. This set strikes a much finer balance.

The HDR is mostly a gimmick on this set. Turning HDR on in a game mostly just blows all the details out until you tinker with the settings a good bit to eventually configure a view that isn't all that different or better than just having HDR turned off. My experience has been the same at the OS level and just viewing videos in the built in apps. HDR seems.... underwhelming to the point of being completely ignoreable.

Text is beautiful. The built in scaler is MUCH better than the Seiki. If I had to play a game at lower resolution it would only bother me a little vs being a non-starter on the other set. It turns on FAST which is a big plus as a monitor and the speakers are actually good enough for me that I ditched the cheap sound bar I needed for my crappy old set.

All in all pretty impressed so far considering it cost about the same as the Seiki did a couple years ago it's a good step up.

It looks like from the product description, this set doesn't have WiFi capability, can anyone confirm?

Version implies same series model year same specs other than size. Probably whatever you're looking at doesn't meet those criteria

Reasons:
A) You don't have room for the 49"
B) The 49" uses a different (and inferior) panel type to the 43" monitor
C) The 43" is the sweet spot for a 4K TV used as a computer monitor (it's basically the same as a 2x2 grid of four 21" 1920x1080 monitors).
