Definitely YMMV. Vizio 5.1 SmartCast sound bar system, model SB4551-D5.

BestBuy Website price was not indicative of the in store pricing I found on this product. Website says clearance price of $399, had an open box in satisfactory condition listed for ~$266. Found them both in store. In store price was about $270 new in the box clearanced, and that open box deal was actually $181!

I bought the open box deal and I'm extremely pleased. It was missing the box and remote, but i used the Vizio SmartCast app and my Logitech Harmony Hub instead. Used the savings to get a 4 year Geek Squad warranty. Entire total was about $230 with tax.

I think the Geek Sqaud warranty is probably a must for peace of mind. I checked Vizios warranty terms and they actually state in the fine print that the warranty will not cover products sold "as-is" or even "clearance"!

I have had this system for 7 months. Great sound, great bass. The flat type subwoofer is amazing, tucks right behind the couch and shakes the whole room during movies

I completely agree! I had my living room tiled and the tile guys left zero room to hide speaker wire around the perimeter of my living room. So, unfortunately it was time to say goodbye to my old 7.1 Polk audio speakers and entry level Sony amp. The VIZIO system definitely sounds better than the Polk RM301 speakers I had up on the walls. Much better punch from the center. And now the wife is much happier with the aesthetics of the sound bar and hidden subwoofer, lol!

I have the "3.1" version; do either of you notice the sub making a popping/thumping sound randomly? It's not loud, like a drum being hit from far away and is sporadic. I've tried looking on forums but haven't found much. It's only a month old so I may return it.

thanks,

No, not at all. Try giving Vizios tech support a call, maybe they have an idea on what that could be. Possibly interference from something like a WiFi router? If you can't get it fixed, return it or they'll likely ship you a new unit.

I had no hold time with them last night and they fixed my issue immediately (and it's US based, yay!). For some reason the bar was unresponsive to remote commands and wouldn't do anything but stay in pairing mode. Held the volume down and buttons for 5 seconds, presto! Factory reset and everything works fine.

Sweet! Really glad I helped somebody find something, first deal I've ever found on my own worth sharing imo.

Watched the bank robbery scene from Heat on Blu-ray yesterday. I just couldn't stop grinning, the subwoofer was thumping and the sound was awesome. Be sure to adjust the treble, bass, surround, subwoofer etc using the SmartCast app!

I would say slightly better? The bar on the 45" is 9 inches wider, so I wonder if that means it has more speakers in the bar as well as a wider sound field. The main difference seems to be the subwoofer. Most literature seems conflicting on the sb3651, with most sources saying 50 hertz as the lowest response. The SB4551 is 30 hertz. SB4551 is also supposedly louder with a 104 dB maximum sound level and the sb3651 being 101 dB.

Other than that, they seem to have identical features.

Got the floor model with all parts at 164, and talked the MOD into including the two year extended warranty at that price. Slick work was done by the OP to find this in the first place.

Can the rear speakers be turned off? If you dont hook them up does the sound get messed up?

Nope. Don't plug the rear speakers into the subwoofer and it would work fine. However, you might be able to find something cheaper that is a sound bar and subwoofer only.
