it's summer and also people complaining about how impure ice cream is, so if you want pure ingredients, this is very highly rated and reviews show people using it many years now - 20 minutes in the freezer

https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-...B0041A3KPC

$43 shipped prime, lowest price in three years

alternately this also highly-rated one for $33 but it needs ice (cuisinart doesn't need ice) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009A0N4E

lower rated but also no ice model from Hamilton Beach for $33 https://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-B...B00MA6XMMU

OP, the canister for the Cuisinart needs at least 16-24 hours to become completely frozen (Source: product manual [cuisinart.com]).

ah that explains why some people like to buy this with two canisters

there was a deal last year for this price with two but no longer

but you can just get in the habit of leaving the canister in the freezer all the time?

I tried one of these, froze it for days and it still didn't freeze the ice cream. Plus with these the longer you churn it the warmer it's going to get. So if you didn't get it cold enough your SOL. With the built in compressor ones, the longer your churn the more frozen it will become.

Right. The core isn't designed to get hard-pack frozen from the canister alone. It's enough to get the ice cream set (essentially a soft-serve consistency), then you transfer it to another container and into the deep freeze to firm it up.

I love the line from "The New Adventures of Old Christine". They are looking in the forgotten gift closet, and the son says "Why are there so many ice cream makers in here", and the brother says "It turns out you can buy ice cream already made" ha ha

I went through this. When I went to the supermarket and saw the price of heavy cream was $5 dollars a quart, I gave up.

We've had this one (or almost exactly like it) for years and its fantastic. Always makes perfect ice cream or yogurt, no issues with the freezer pack (only wish I had more of them).

I had one of these and it was terrible. We kept the tub in the freezer for days and it still couldn't get the ice cream anywhere near as cold as it needed to be. Not even close to soft serve, more like chilled milk soup.

Paid $18 two years ago from Best Buy and even that I think it's overpriced. You will only use once or twice and then realize it's much easier to just go to the store and get the ice cream. Not sure why people are thumbing up this at $42.
