If you don't mind spilling a little mulch here and there, Every Lowe's I've ever been to sells their broken bags of, well, ANYTHING in a bag for somewhere between $0.50/bag up to 50% off per bag. They break tons of bags of whatever is on sale (Vigoro right now,) making them $1/bag. YMMV on how full the bags are; You get a feel for if the bag is full or not. This deal also applies to asphalt hole patch, concrete, fertilizers, bagged stone, you name it. Tell the cashier you have broken bags. Make sure to avail yourself of the clear inventory recovery bags when stocking up....Really cuts back on spillage.

Do not be the D-Bag that cuts the bags themselves on the way to the checkout. I saw someone get busted for it about a month ago....Hilarious.

Lowes premium has a bad rep for not being very "premium" The vigoro is really good mulch. I have used both and franly I was not bothered to really see a huge difference. I just ordered 80 bags of the vigoro today and paid for the $79 delivery fee and it comes out to about $3 a bag at 80 bags. The max of one color is 60. I got 20 black to touch up some areas and 60 of brown to redo a hill in my backyard before the 4th. The delivery is usually next day from your local HD.

I'm in so Cal. I bought all three in brown this year. Scott>Lowe's premium>vigroso. Vigroso color is very dull.

The majority consensus, and my experience as well, is that best to worst is HD Scott's Earthgro, Lowes and then HD's Vigoro.
But they are all crap mulch that are pretty similar.
I was especially disappointed in the batches of Earthgro I got this year, it had A LOT more huge chuncks than I have seen before.
That said, I still buy a bunch of these because they fit my need.

I'll dissent based on anecdotal evidence (of buying hundreds of bags combined), and say that for me, the worst, by far, has been the Earthgro. I will never buy that stuff again, even on sale. The dye, for one, lasts the least amount of time of all three.

I also agree with the above that none of these big box store bagged mulches are very good. The really good stuff usually comes from dedicated nurseries or garden centers in my experience. World of difference in terms of quality.
